Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

Many of you may have read my discussion about Taquito the chihauhua.  We are having to really train him (never did because he is so little - hasn't been a problem - etc...).  So now we are trying to "teach an old dog new tricks" - I mean, he has never even sat before.  Meanwhile, Peri the doodle has had pretty extensive training, passed her Canine Good Citizen, etc...

So we are working on Taquito's "sit-stay". He is having a hard time getting this.  So imagine me saying "Taquito sit" and him just looking at me. Then imagine Peri following us around and litterally butting Taquito out of the way to "sit" for me!  She pushes him to the side, sits, and stares right at me like "hey mom I will sit, what do I get, what do I get???".  It is totally hilarious.  I can be in the other room with Taquito - she hears the word "sit" and within a few seconds, I've got a grinning, sitting doodle right in front of me - waiting on a treat!

So funny....  the good news is that Taquito is mellowing a little - he's already not trying to get on my lap when I am playing with Charlotte (the human baby).  He is just a little more subdued in some respects.  Here's to hoping we get him in his place - must cure the napoleonic complex ;)

Thanks for all of your support!

And here's a pic of the baby, because I can't resist.  And it's virtually impossible to get one of Peri and her together.  They were under the coffee table this morning - she reached out for Peri and Peri licked her all over. It was too cute. Then Peri ran off....before I could get camera.

Charlotte is adorable. I once had the same thing happen with a toddler visitor. I was afraid the dogs would knock him over and told them to sit, and the little fellow sat right down : )

What a cutie pie!! I love the story of Peri the Over Acheiver! I can just envision her. Maybe Taquito can learn by example!

Awwww! Alysson, Charlotte is just precious! Thank you so much for posting this adorable photo. The Tacky/Peri duo is cracking me up.

We had similar issues when we got Owen. Whenever we gave Owen a command, Kona did it. The problem arose when Owen got scolded (a lot). Kona is such a sensitive guy, he would get so upset to think he might have done something wrong. So sad. Kona also comes running whenever we tell Owen he's a "good boy" because Kona knows deep in his heart that he is the ONLY good boy n the house! Enjoy those three cuties!

Allyson, she is bautiful and her smle is precious!  Your "sit, stay" story is soooo cute and I can just picture Peri come running!  These Doodles do not miss a thing, especially if it involves food or a treat:)

Little C. is too cute. What a grin!

It's impossible to give a command only to one dog at our house as well. I work with Auggie and here comes Monty butting in performing all the commands. I'm trying to make them understand that if I say Monty stay, Auggie come, the right one comes. It's HARD!

Glad that Taquito is mellowing out.

Cass was like that.  She'd try to join in and do whatever the other dogs were being told to do, especially if she thought there might be a consumable reward involved.
