I know its been a big topic of discussion on how safe the airlines are to ship dogs and puppies.  I am a corporate travel agent so I see all kinds of airline info come across my email.  This one caught my eye today...  I am wondering when they will add more breeds, etc.... its an interesting move on Delta's part just banning bulldogs but I can see why....

I know I trot this out every time we talk about dogs in the cargo hold, but my cousin's dog's carrier was dropped (or suffered some other mishap) in transit and two of poor Bagheera's discs in her back ruptured (she was a german shephard and not prone to naturally having back problems, like a bassett hound or dachshund). The airline paid for Baggie's surgerey, but she was never the same dog! The result is that my cousin now has a letter from his doctor saying that his current dog (Bagheera died a few years ago) is a service animal because of a panic disorder. Now his dog gets to fly in the cabin. Not the worst idea...

How do you know what the cargo hold is like in these airplanes. We flew our doodle with us on vacation and he did fine and there were alot of dogs on the flight. The staff was wonderful and they were all loaded last and first off and we were looked after very well. It would be nice to know what it is physically like though. We will travel with our dog wherever we go most likely. We haven't flown since but you never know. I can't see us leaving him home if possible.

That would take years of recovery for me to! I have always been against it and also chose a breeder within a driving distance. To me if you need to take a few days to drive it's so worn it for what I consider a member of your family :-)

I personally hate  the idea of dogs or any animal traveling in cargo. I know it is a common practice but one of the reasons I chose the breeder that I did was because she was within driving distance for picking up Tara! I just couldn't bear the thought of a little 8 week old puppy being taken away from her family and put into the cargo hold of a jet! I figured it would take years of therapy for her to recover! :)
