Yesterday afternoon we noticed what looks like someone took a pair of scissors to Mater's ear! The hair is cut off to just below his ear tip and on side of his head! I't so bizarre. Tom was with him all day and has no idea how it could have happend. I might have to trim his other ear just so he doesn't look so lopsided. Strangest thing. They were only at the park and at Agility class, then ran a few errands. We looked all over the yard to see if there was anything sharp enough to cut it if he was caught - like a metal shard or something - but can't find anything. I'm mystified, and a little concerned since we don't want to have it happen again.

hmmmmm, sounds suspiciously like a kid with scissors! lol. When we had a family watch one of my older dogs Puma, a long haired cocker spaniel, I picked up him and they told he was spoiled. Who me? spoil a dog. I asked why. The little kids replied, cause "Puma only eats fried chicken and drinks grape kool-aid !" Needless to say they still couldn't figure out why he had the diarrhea. (yes, all dried and clumpy on his tail feathers). A weird tanget, but long hair and kids = a bad haircut somewhere. lol. Sorry to Mater.

Still no idea how this happened. I have a sneaky suspicion that one of our granddaughters may have cornered him with a pair of scissors when we were there for dinner Friday night. Our daughter says no way, but so far it is the only logical explaination I can come up with. Still, I'd be surprised that we wouldn't have noticed it sooner if that was what happened.

Was there anytime at all when Mater was left for a couple of mins. in the vehicle while Tom was in somewhere on an errand? Was the vehicle window open enough for him to have his head out. Probably not. Stupid question I guess. I leave my dogs for very short durations in my locked vehicle but not usually with enough opened window space to get their head out or half out.

Once my daughter-in-law "borrowed" our English Springer Spaniel for a walk. She took him to a wilderness area where he got so filthy and burr laden that she decided to wash him. She was unable to get all of the burrs out and trimmed one ear. He looked so odd - I can just picture Mater. At first she didn't tell us what she had done - she waited until we noticed it - it took about 1 minute!
