Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

Hi all, this is my first attmept at blogging. We are also new to having a dog as both my husband and myself did not have any pets growing up ourselves or during raising our children. So we are REALLY Dog Virgins!!!!!!
We travel and live in a 40' RV Motor Home as of now and won't have a permanent home anytime soon as we love the lifestyle we live. My questions are about having a new little goldendoodle puppy, which we are recieving Feb 12th. (8weeks old), and having to be super diligent about chewing problems. Everything in the RV is very difficult to replace if destroyed and since the woodwork and leather couch and chairs are so nice, we need it to stay nice in order to ever resell this in the future. I guess I just need every trick in the book that everyone who has been successful with not having their home destroyed has ever used so I can get prepared before our baby gets here.
Thanks to all in advance.

I have read a lot about the Apple Bitter as well as lemon juice and breath spray. I will have a full artillery of sprays it think. I can use the last two if the dog doesn;t need it ( one can only hope, huh?) As for toys, April (our breeder) did suggest no stuffing also. I can see how they'd like it tho when they are teething. We don;t do much biking altho we have bikes, but it;s the running and hiking that I will have to wean Murphy into as he grows. We do "Bike', but it;s a Harley. No puppy side car (yet).
All good ideas and now I have several more DK friends. Love this site.

Crate training will help with most issues and they do sell "APPLE BITTER" spray that will not stain anything. You can spray this on everything and the dog does not like the taste and leaves it alone..you may have to spray the same thing from time to time as it will wear off...it worked for all of my dogs. Good Luck

It is so wonderful to have DK and friends who have gone down this road beofre me that are willing to share. Thank you, thank you, thank you. We will definitly crate and he will be joined at the hip with a leash. Our breeder, who is AWESOME by the way, April, from Cliberdoodles, has suggested a halter type leash and we will get that as soon as she has some idea what size to start with. She is sending videos to the families who are not able to visit to pick their pups and then calling us to see which one we would like from the video. That is more than I could hope for. She also will be suggesting which one has a suitable personality for us as well. Such a blessing to have found her here on DK. We also are very outdoorsy and the pup will be with us doing a LOT of activities and walks. So exercise won't be an issue. Actually I think April thinks I am going to hike 5 hours a day with this poor pup and reminds me that he will need rest!!!! LOL.... She has been so attentive to my emails and calls that I have a feeling that she will pick the perfect pup for us and he will just fall right into our lifestyle. Anyway, what toys are the best? I have some Kongs and Nylabones so far. How many toys are we talking about???????

First and foremost I think is to crate train your pup. Second is exercise, and third is to have toys of different textures for the pup to chew on.
