Puppy Crusade

This is my first blog here & for some reason the first thing I find to write about is the puppy crusades.

 

The Puppy Crusades topic got brought up by a conversation I had with a friend & how she doesn't approve of Doodles based mostly on shelter & people behavior of over breeding the market.

 

She made it sound so bad because so many are breeding anything dog with a poodle & how this makes Doodles a mistaken breed bc there IS NO breed, no markers to say this is a standard Doodle.

 

As you can imagine I totally disagreed.....

I  Know everyone here loves Doodles but looking at her words I realized straight away how the word Doodle could have been replaced with any dog breed....because the Problem is people & money not designer breeds.

 

Almost all breeds in AKC were at some point a designer breed like Doodles...though Doodles are many things it is becoming much like a sub breed like Retrievers, there are many kinds & sizes.

One day there will be the standard for each type of Doodle just like Labs & Golden retrievers, until that time breed with the future in mind not your wallet or your big heart that just keeps wanting puppies.

 

My point is this, when one goes on a crusade such as Puppy Breeds one shouldn't be a breed snob or a shelter snob.

A shelter snob aka the ppl who jump down your throat because you didn't adopt from the shelter.

Shelters are a sad place to me & the dogs/cats there do need to be remember bit reality is.....when finding the perfect new 4 legged family member one should always try the shelter to see if the new member is just waiting to be found....but one should not feel bad or force the situation just bc they feel guilt, family is family they have to fit like Cindy's shoe.

 

My Heart Goes Out To Puppy Crusaders, just be careful not to see the enemy in a friend.

Before I ever even thought of getting a doodle - I went to a shelter and looked for a puppy.  There were lots of dogs and it really made my heart hurt, but I wanted a puppy and they didn't have any young dogs.  Plus many of the dogs they had were of breeds that I would not own - lots of Pit Bulls or P.B. mixes.  Several of the dogs had been adopted only to be returned.  I'm not the dog expert and I knew I couldn't handle the types of issues many of them had.  I ended up with my best buddy - that I purchased from a reputable breeder.  I will not feel bad, I will not apologize.

Very well said.  That is interesting about the '"Doodle" and being a class like Retrievers and say Spaniels I had not thought of that before but its a great come back if needed.  :-)
