Thanks for the support! Lola is 4 months old and is really doing well with the house training. Her training is compounded by the fact that she's had a UTI every since we've had her (got her 12/24) so our experience is probably somewhat different. She never has an accident in the crate (even after 7 hours) so our vet has recommended using that as a tool even when we are home to try and stretch out the frequency. I think she's gotten into a bad habit too of going every hour due to the infection. I did use the crate yesterday afternoon even after I got home from work (playing with her every couple of hours) and it did seem to go better although she was very high energy in the evening due to being in the crate so much. Any other tips are appreciated.
Yeah...Peri heads to the door, makes this high-pitched bark and looks at her leash. They really catch on. How old is your pup Renee?
You should join the Puppy Madness group also - great tips that kept me completely sane for the first few months :)
NEVER! Just kidding...sort of. Guinness now has the run of the house (at 10 months), but it's still always in the back of mind to keep an eye on him. If it's been a few hours since he's "gone", I start getting a little nervous, and watch for the signal. There are times (even now) when he has waited too long so when he heads for the door, it's URGENT. Once he's gone, I know I have a few hours to relax, but after that I'm "on alert" for him to head for the door. I've learned "when a Doods got to go, a Dood really has to go".
I recommend using baby gates to confine them until you feel comfortable with them being able to hold their bladder. For us, it was around 5 months when we removed the darn gates!!!
