New Years Eve! To celebrate, DH ordered some nice big fat lobsters and picked up four of them from our local fish monger. Quincy went with him to pick them up and buy other special treats but DH was smart enough not to leave Q in the car alone with the goodies (he learns from past mistakes).
We enjoyed the a few hors d'oeuvres with our cocktails. Nice fire, great evening.
Then it came time to cook the lobsters. DH went into the garage to get them-wait- where are they? okay so we all had imbibed a few cocktails, but where could a bag with four 1 1/2 lobsters be hiding? We searched the garage, looked in the fridge, checked in the car. Hmmm.
DH had put the bag up on a platform in the garage, way to the back. Gone! The four of us were stumped.
But wait! The white plastic bag they were in was by under my car...empty...The plot thickened.
We put on the flood lights and sure enough...four lobsters strewn across on our front lawn. All still alive, and ice cold as it was in the 20 degree range. Our friends remembered they did see "something" on the lawn when they pulled up! Didn't dawn on them that it was our dinner!
I can only imagine what those poor devils went through with a doodle trying to get them to play catch! Since their pincers were banded, they could not fight back but I wonder if they tried to run! They were all facing toward the Sound, but it is a mile down the road.
We were not sure we wanted to eat Quincy leftovers, but they had no bite marks, were intact, and were still alive.
Turns out they were sweet and delicious. Mr. Quincy-Innocent-Look did not get to sample though!
HAPPY NEW YEAR TO ALL OUR DK FRIENDS!

I think you are right, Bonnie, this is a classic for future New Years!
Laurie, I always leave the room when the lobsters go in the pot!
Lonnie-O was happy we could still eat them! But one of the guests was the driver so he had less cocktails and hence more reluctance about eating Quincy leftovers, but since they were all still alive (until we boiled them), he did enjoy with all of us.
OMD Lori I'm still laughing. I cannot imagine the lobsters on the ground and Quincy trying to figure out what to do with them! Love it and soooo happy you still got your New Year's Lobster dinner! Yum Yum
Lori, I was rooting for the Lobsters to make it to the Sound :) When I first moved to Baltimore, I could not believe people ate crabs that they cooked in a pot on their stove. Oh my...I always felt so sorry for the crabs. LOL This really was a very funny story!
OMD Lori! That is a story you will tell the rest of your life! The night the lobsters made an escape attempt! Hilarious!
