Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

I don't know if anyone else is into watching these reality series family shows on TLC like I am. I watch them all Kate Plus 8, 19 Kids & Counting, the Little Couple, etc. It brings me to this new show called "Quints by Surprise". Quints by Surprise is about the Jones family from Texas. They have a 7ish year old daughter and 22ish month quints (5 Babies! Holy Cow!). Let me just say I cannnot EVEN imagine!!

On the episode, I think it was Monday night, the family has to move and the dad, Ethan, promised the older daughter, Elliott, a puppy when they moved to their new house with a fenced in yard. The episode went on to show them going to the breeders house with 5 babies and the older daughter and all these puppies. I swear I think the puppies were Doodles - I was thinking Goldendoodles, they showed the mom for a moment and she looked doodleish as well. The breeder had some other yorkie mixes as well. I have been trying to find a video clip online to see if anyone else thinks these were doodles. My thoughts were "what reputable breeder would allow a family with all of the babies come and handle their puppies" and "what reputable breeder would think this is a good family for a puppy" ~ really having 5 kids 22 months old isn't enough work? I don't see a puppy getting what it needs and I think its dangerous.

Did anyone else happen to see this? Or see any video clip online?

http://www.joneslife.net/ - this is the website for the family and they have them featured on the TLC website also.

I didn't mean to come across quite so negative. You hit the nail on the head, Candy. It is just the 'down-grade' they went to. I am a loan officer and I come across people a lot more in need. People who can't pay their bills much less their mortgages. People who are begging me to help them refinance because they can't pay their inflated mortgage due to an adjustable interest rate. The sad thing is right now sometimes I can not help them refinance because the market does not justify the value they think their house should be worth. A lot and I mean a lot of people are upside down on their homes. I guess I see a lot of this so when they get on a show and say they need to downsize, I have little sympathy.

All I have to say is shame on the network for putting things like this on TV! Not only should they not be getting a puppy, if they are doing it on TV it should be being done responsibly by the Network and not putting more eye candy out there for the world to think ole aren't they cute let's get one too. If they can afford it and do it with 6 kids, we can too! Don't even get me started on 19 kids and counting ........ OK, I'm done!

I do have one question about this show though ..... Quints by surprise ..... should I believe that there were no fertility treatments involved in these quints! It was a truly naturally conceived set of quints? (Don't get me wrong, I'm not knocking fertility treatments, just saying that it isn't a surprise under those conditions!

I would imagine they are being paid for the show, but they haven't gained alot of poplarity yet so its probably nothing like the Gosselins are making! I totally agree though, there is so much emphasis on them having financial difficulties and needing to 'down-grade' their home.. did you see the new home they bought?! It is gorgeous, and still spacious, they really didn't have to sacrifice that much. There are so many families in much worse situations, they don't have much to complain about :)

I saw it as well and I also thought they were goldendoodles. Here is what I don't get......they say they are having all of this financial problems.......don't they get a big fat check from being on the show????? Please save the woe is me for someone who really deserves it. The show did have a flash screen saying that it cost $2200/year to care for a dog. I thought they should at least post that but why did they not show it to the Jones'? I wonder about some peoples' sense of reality.

Yes I seen this, and I am also pretty sure they were goldendoodles! The fact that there were multiple breeds of dogs made me think byb? Not a reputable breeder I am sure. Apparently the have 'downsized' their home and now have a yard, and promised their older daughter a puppy. The father didn't seem pleased about it, I think he is more of a realist! I have two boys ages 7 and 2 and a 3 month old puppy, and I am POOPED at the end of the day... I just couldn't imagine!

I only saw the show once but I seem to remember that they needed to move as their dream home was now burying them financially with the cost of raising 6 children. Do they really feel that adding a puppy to the mix will not add to that financial stress? Clearly, they have no idea about how much it costs to vet and feed a puppy nor the amount of time/energy it will take to train the puppy. I agree with you, Denise, I would question how reputable a breeder would be if he/she would think of selling a puppy to this family. I think they have more on their plate than they can handle at the moment! Keep the puppy out of it doodle or not!
