The Spring Training has really reminded me how important it is to teach my doggies tricks! Rusty and Lucy have both been through obedience and I guess I just got so focused on sit, down, heel, stay, etc. that I forgot the FUN of expanding that foundation of learning into the fun tricks!
So, today I got back on the
Dogtrickacademy site and taught Rusty how to shake in about 10 minutes. How fun is that! He's so proud of himself. I'm gonna let that sink in for a week or so then start working on High Five!
The Day Three of the Spring Training is about targeting which I had already done with Rusty but a bit differently in that I had him target my hand (it's an agility thang) and then a target (cottage cheese lid - again, an agility thang). I'm enjoying the lessons and have learned something new each day.
Finally, I got so jazzed about the trick thing I started looking for a doodle TRICK group to join but there was none - so I created a new group called
TRICK and TREAT (aka Shaping). I was a bit hesitant because.. well.. I dont' know .. I felt a bit presumptuous I guess... Who was I to create a group.. but there wasn't one.. and I wanted one.. and if I want one maybe there are others interested in tricks.. who knows?? So, if you're interested in learning or sharing about tricks..
