I keep telling my friends and family that Lucy is brilliant and it's me that's holding her back. They all smile warmly and say "uh huh". I decided to show my parents how smart Lucy is... so yesterday while I was at their house, I started teaching Lucy how to shake. We worked on it for about 15 minutes.. "shake" pick up her paw and hold it... then treat.. repeated about 15 times. My parent weren't all that impressed but by the last 4 "shakes" her paw was no longer "planted". Then about 2 hours later (during half time of the football game LOL).. we started again. This time on the 3rd "shake" she got it!! 15 times straight I said "shake" and she lifted her paw and put it in my hand. Now, my parents are convinced she is the smartest dog ever!! I got up this morning to take her to the doggie park and tried "shake" again.. she got it - first time!! I'm excited to see what else she can learn to do.
If you haven't been there, there's a great site called "How to Love Your Dog" that has a fantastic section on teaching tricks WITH videos!! Check it out...

Oh my gosh, I have Lucy's butter thieving sister at my house! How Funny. My Malibu is a butter theif too. I"ve busted her too many times when I've made the mistake of leaving it out and uncovered. They could be twins. You take beautiful action shots of Lucy, great job. These sites really show off how smart and sassy this breed is. Our dog also is too smart for it's owners and the things she can learn is unbelievable. Malibu learned how to open doors at one of our advanced training classes, then proceeded to come home and open the cabinet door to the pantry and help herself to the sugar. Then the next day does the same thing. (mind you this happened while I was at work, and my husband was at home with her). He proceeds to tell me what a mess she made with the sugar, so now we've "Mali-proofed" the pantry. lol.
