Someone's got Puppy Fever!

It's not me.

My nearly 4 year old came into our room this morning and whispered that Rosco told her he wants a kitty.  We went along with it for a bit then she admitted she actually gave him this idea and "Mommy can we go to the pet store to look at kitties?"  My answer disappointed.  She then offered plan C: Let's go to the breeder and buy a puppy! Final negotiation was that when she turns 10 we can buy a puppy.  5 minutes later she brought me a piece of paper and marker so we could make a list of names for said way-far-into-the-future puppy.  Haha...she cracks me up!

Oooh change of plans:
N: Oh I can't wait to get a puppy.  It'll be so much fun!  I can play with it...

Me: Well you can play with the dogs you have... Did you know puppies bite you?
N: They can't bite, they don't have any teeth!
Me: Oh yes, they have tiny little sharp puppy teeth. I had all sorts of scratches on me from when Rosco was a puppy and he tore my clothes.  Puppies like to play and catch things with their sharp little teeth.

N: Oh...well maybe let's not get a puppy.
After thinking a bit...
N: Oh I have an idea!  Let's get a 2 year old puppy!  .... Do 2 year old puppies bite?

Natalie, is so cute.  Having gone down this road, I can only say they have a way of wearing you down :)  I wonder how many names Natalie can come up with between now and age 10.

Sophie (now 26) begged me for a Boxer dog when she was six....it went on and she didn't give up. When she was 8 I 'borrowed' a Boxer from a neighbor who was untrained and asked if we could take him to the park. I gave the lead to Sophie and the Boxer obliged by pulling her down the path. Two minutes later she said ' I think you would need to be 10 to have a dog like this'. As she was dragged into a pond half an hour later she said ' Mum I think you would need to be 30 to have a dog like this'. Sophie is now 26 and I'm waiting until she is 30 to remind her of this story LOL

I figured 6 years from now is a reasonable time frame.  By then Rosco will be 13.5 years old and Boca will be 10 years old too.  So two senior dogs...we'll be needing a puppy transition as our still-young-now dogs age.
