Sweet 16!!!

Today is Butter's estimated 16th Birthday!!! ( He came to us when he was a little less than a year old.)

He shared majority of my kids' lives, taught them responsibilities, compassion, empathy, and unconditional love.

Protected us, ( I was by myself and all of my kids were so little...) brought many joy to us.

Each winter gets more difficult for him, and his arthritis seems to progress. But, he is eating OK and still enjoy going outside. He loved the snow and enjoyed the short walk in the neighborhood today.

 

We love you Butter, and wish to share many more years!!

It is like they are kids when our kids were kids.  Then instantly they become that old man you describe.  They walk out into the yard now.  The kids are grown and they no longer must compete in play time.  The kids went off to college.  In the end it was me and my loyal loving dog.

Yes, Joanne, he used to dart out of the door if you left it open. But now, he just walk around the yard and look around.... Really behave like an elderly man.

Happy Birthday Butter!   Awww Kyoko.  I remember those wonderful days with a very elderly dog.  That elderly dog you wished just a few years ago would stop pulling you down the street but now walks with a slow and steady gait.  The walk where they are enjoying you and could care less about that squirrel or cat.  I loved the early days but I think some of those later years were a really close bonding time for my old guy and me.

Enjoy him.  You are a lucky girl.
