To start off, like most dogs, Ollie loves walks. Now that it is cooler out (under 100 degrees) Ollie and I have been enjoying our (admitedly, almost) daily walks. I live in a valley in the middle of Texas, so the pollen count is ALWAYS high. If it is too hot I have a hard time breathing, but lately it has been pretty awesome outside. Since it gets dark so early now, to avoid mosquitos (yes i know, it is crazy that mosquitos are still active in November. As an Indiana girl, I'm completely annoyed) we go on our walk immeditely after I get home from work.
Ollie knows that we are going on a walk if I put on his harness and he gets so excited. Throughout the walk he is so happy and you can see him calming down as we make our way back to the apartment. So for the past couple of walks (I'm not sure for how long), as we make our way towards our apartment building, Ollie will slow up and walk behind me. When I pause to see what is slowing him down he jumps up (not in an "I'm excited to see you and will knock you over" sort of way), but more of a gentle jump, his tail wags, and he is smiling as I hold him up in a hug.
The Ollieboy just wants a hug :) It's almost like he is thanking me for such a great walk. I love it. Do any other of Ollie's doodle friends "thank" their mom's or dad's? I feel like this is fitting for Thanksgiving.

Duncan "thanks" me with a ton of kisses after a lengthy back/butt scratch :)
Hey everyone! Thank you so much for all the lovely comments. Ollie is a sweet boy. He is a goofy boy, but definitely a sweet one. I love seeing their personalities come out. I don't think I ever truly understood how unique dogs are until now. They are just too funny.
The victory laps, kisses, belches, glances of appreciation, and hugs make every day so much better don't they?
Darling picture. I haven't noticed any overt gratefulness from Tigger or Roo. Perhaps Roo will make a "Report" on walks soon. He was very busy today helping with the Christmas lights, so he may be tired!
Rachel after reading you cute story about Ollie I just had to share something too. We take Libby on a two mile walk every morning and it is truly the highlight of her day. She LOVES to walk, meet people, see other doggies and just enjoy the outdoors. When our walk is almost over we round a corner to our house and Libby too slows down a little and tugs at the leash and then puts her nose to our hand and gives us what we call "a nose kiss" and wags her tail like crazy. I too believe she is thanking us! She just warms our hearts when she does this and makes our day!
Love the picture!
During off leash runs Lily wil run up at full speed, slam on the brakes, make eye contact, do a huffing sound that says" I love this mom", then off again. She does this several times during a run.
Not sure if this qualifies as a thank-you, but after Gavin is done eating he always seeks one of us out, sits in nice and close and lets out a huge belch. It is pretty hilarious really. Ollie is a doll with his walk thank you!
What an adorable photo. I get those lovely cuddles in the evening when I am sitting on the couch. Kona sweetly leans into me for hugs.
Our doodles seem to express their gleeful gratitude in anticipation of the walk more than at the end. To be honest, when we get home they frantically charge the back gate hoping to catch any squirrels that might have snuck into the yard while they were gone. We are long forgotten.
