That special hair dryer bonding time...

When I use my hair dryer, I sit cross-legged on the floor in my room by a convenient electrical outlet. From the time Trav was a tiny puppy, he has considered this activity to be one of our special bonding times. He is always right there when I plug in the dryer, circling happily around me, occasionally getting tangled up in the cord. Early on, the appearance of the dryer somehow became associated with his blanket, so he has to find and fetch the blanket in order to provide the right ambience for this special time. Ideally, the blanket gets draped over at least one of my legs, and he enjoys getting into my lap with the blanket and a couple of toys. This part of the ritual became considerably more chaotic as he grew from 10 pounds to 50+ pounds. He also likes getting ‘dried’ on the low setting and trying to catch the blower air in his mouth, as a part of the general festivities.

I hadn’t thought about how any of this would look to outside eyes until a while back when my daughter and SIL were visiting. In the midst of the dryer/bonding, I saw movement and looked up to find the two of them standing in kitchen, watching and giggling. They hadn’t realized this is an advanced dog socialization technique, and didn’t really seem all that convinced even after I explained it to them. Anyhow, that’s my story, and I’m sticking to it.

ha ha I love this!!  we had an Austrailian Shephard, Pepper, when I was a kid and every morning when I blew dry my hair she would think it was a fun game and bite and get zoomies.. I haven't thought about that in years until your post.  What a fun thing for you two!
