THE DISABLED AND THE DISTRAUGHT - PART 2

Monday morning I called the vet and spoke to Jamie (one of our favorite technicians). She said we could come in at 11:15. My daughter insisted on coming … But since this was Leo’s “adventure”, let’s have HIM tell you about it… (please read along in Leo’s voice) So we get there, and it’s all I can do to stand up after hopping in and out of the back of the car. Could they not have gotten a ramp or something? We get in the examining room, and Harley tells me to lay down and look “lame” when the nurse comes in. So I do: Image When she comes in, Harley immediately “sucks-up” to the nurse, letting her know that he “ain’t the one” and therefore doesn’t need his temperature taken: Image She talks to my mom for a few minutes, comes after me with the thermometer and leaves – no head rub- no treat – no nothing! I was NOT feeling the love. With much empathy – Harley thinks he can get me a treat – but he’s too short: Image I try myself, but the lid is on the jar – GEEZ: Image We wait…. The doc comes in – but she’s not the one we usually see. I panic, because I don’t know her! Where’s MY vet? She listens to my mom tell the story AGAIN, and then grabs my foot and starts poking around: Image This isn’t feeling good AT ALL, so I’m wrestling out of her grip, like “Andrae the Giant” in a championship match. My mom finally has to “Stone Cold Steve Austin” me and put me in a body lock between her legs: Image I was happy to hear that my bruises weren’t that bad. She said this type of injury is common amongst dogs my size on rough terrain and I should heal in a few days. Thank goodness the cuts weren’t that deep. I didn’t need antibiotics, booties, or any of the other contraptions my sister kept reading about on her computer. I did get some “super” pain medication to reduce the swelling and give me some relief. Once we got home, the pain med’s started “kicking in” and I just slept the day away. To the best of my knowledge Harley didn’t get any pills so why on earth he was sleeping I don’t know! Image We stayed home the rest of the day and all day Tuesday, but on Wednesday we loaded up in the car and off to camp we went! It was “the best” seeing “the gang” again: Samantha, Scout, Buddy, even “Harley the Beagle.”: Image I did rest off and on. Even though I pranced around like a “brand new doodle”, my “paws” started to throb after a while: Image All in all it was a great day, I’m about 90%, and should reach 100 by Friday. Thanks to Dr. Shane and the folks at the vets office. Oh Tiffany? She’s doing okay too, but I do whip my “pitiful” look on her every once in a while for an extra treat. I mean, look at me – wouldn’t you fall for this face?: Image
