Poor Bexter!  His favorite resting spot WAS the register on the office floor near me (while I am computer-socializing on DK).  Yesterday, he was resting there and jumped up frantically crying out and running under my computer desk.  Of course, I freaked out!  I looked down and his collar tag had gotten caught between 2 of the slabs of the register cover thingy and as he freaked out & jumped up, it was still attached to his collar hanging there in front of him (almost as big as he is really).  I quickly undid his collar to get the thing off him & then easily got the tag out from where it was stuck.  Ever since that happened though, he will NOT lay down over there.  Is he smart or what?  I am sad for him though.  Now he lays down on the hardwood floor outside my office where there is a basement door which has cold air flowing out under the door crack.  Whenever I used to get ready (shower, etc) he would lay on the register in the bathroom too, but now will NOT go near it.  Who said dogs can't generalize?  Poor little guy.  He's been traumatized.

Do any of your dogs have a fear of unusual things?

Laurie - I just read your blog about the "attack."  Hilarious!  You described your tragedy much better than I did!

Laurie - Why are your dogs both afraid of hula hoops?  Do you use them for "corrections" or something??? LOL

Daisy has hooked her tags on her food dish once which is on a stand....they are metal bowls - OMD, food, water, bowls, flying all over the kitchen. Fortunately the tummy's will is stronger than her fear and she continues to eat.

Traci, This same thing happened to Vern and I blogged about it. Let's see...so far Vern is afraid of the dog in the mirror, posters at the vet's office, a man in a lawn chair, his own shadow along the tree lines, hula hoops, the ceiling fan, and I am sure I am forgetting many. Fudge is afraid of sneezes and hula hoops. Vern did not learn his lesson with the grate and continues to lay right on top of it. Poor Bexter seems to hold a grudge...LOL!

Wow, this sounds like a common story about tags and air vents! Be careful!!! So glad we do not have those types of vents.

Myla hates baby gates and has no more trust in us after us tripping over them and crashing down to the floor either with us or without us!! She sees you coming and she jumps up like someone bit her in the booty!
