My daughter and her bf moved to Boston after graduating from college.  Why?  Cause its a great city, lots of opportunities.  yeah sure....... took like a year and  a half till they both found real jobs in their fields of study.  Obviously as a mom I have been very worried.  I send money (unsolicited) but I knew damn well that that 25 pound bag of rice would only last so long. They have lived very very lean, no car, no cable for tv and so forth.  However no complaints nor requests, which of course causes mother to send another checkl  geez.  Anyway a year and a half after graduation they are both employed full time with real benefits!!!! YAY.  Of course during this year I tried to lure them back, they insisted this would work out.  Oh to be young again and so positive.  I'm so relieved and so proud my kids are making it!!!  My girl said they are eating like Kings!! wow.  The worst part is......they are now making nearly as much money as me and DH!!  lol

Congrats! I'm very happy for you! I sometimes feel guilty that I make more money than my dad did, but he never asks and I don't tell. I think you need to cash in on their success when the times right, after all, you've earned it too! ;-)

i gotta add that Amber is the first in our immediate family with a degree.  I started brainwashing her when she was 2 years old. We didnt have much money for sure, but every single quarter I ever got went into her piggy banks.  I would have her drop them into the piggy banks telling her  "to save for your college education"  When I had enough quarters we would invest it.  It was never enough of course, but I never minded giving her the rest to match her needs when she was finally college bound!  Somehow, I feel complete!  thanks everyone.

Our daughter, the Interior Designer, and SIL the Dr. are doing better than us, and they are not even 30 yet. They did have a lot of help from us as they went through school and saved for a house, and we were happy to do it. Good beginnings make for happy lives.

Our oldest graduated with her PhD in English this summer and has been looking for a position ever since.  Right now she is making ends meet by substitute teaching in middle & high school.

My daughter went through a 6-year graduate program, so even though she didn't live at home, she needed our help for a LONG time.  So worth it, though, now that she's an "official" grown-up!

I know exactly how you feel!  My youngest son and his gf just moved out of our house last August having living with us to save money.  It took my him a year and half after graduating from college to find a job in his field, whew, what a great feeling!  My DH favorite's saying about the kids...we now have productive members of society!!!  Great news for you & your kids.  Congrats
