Our backyard has turned into the killing fields of the neighborhood. Last week, the dogs caught a good sized rabbit while I was out. When I came home I could not find Lilo, so went looking for her in the woods. She was hiding behind some shrubs and was licking a very dead rabbit that showed clear signs of dog molestation. Of course she did not want to let go of it, but proudly paraded around just out of my reach. I finally tricked her into dropping the remains so I could dispose of them in a respectful manner. Two nights ago, we woke up around 4 am to loud screams coming from the back. Outside was a very large horned owl in the process of devouring another poor rabbit. And this morning, the dogs caught a squirrel, which did not survive either. So, I'm thinking about opening up a rodent cementary. Maybe I could charge a nominal entrance fee for the neighbor kids to come through and pay their respects to the many rabbits, squirrels, mice, moles, rats and other critters that have lost their lives on our property. I promise I will donate the proceeds to the Humane Society.

We had to lab mixes when we lived on our farm and we also had some chickens. They loved to play with the chickens. They never actually killed any just scared them to death. I am so freaked out by remains of animals that I will NOT deal with them. I had two dead chickens left at my doorstep one day with two very proud and generous labs looking lovingly at me while I was screaming and half crying more because I had to jump off the front porch to get out of the house as I couldn't deal with removing it. I have a really wild skunk story as well. Probably not near as funny reading it though.

Jeez I hope that they weren't part of the EASTER BUNNY type. If I don't get chocolate for EASTER I am blaming you and your doods!!

The coyotes around here have absolutely no fear of humans or large dogs; Jack & I had a run-in with one a few years back, and it was truly scary. We see them right on the street in broad daylight occasionally. There have also been two small dogs killed in an adjacent suburb and two full grown labrador retrievers attacked in their own yards...another reason why an electric fence is out of the question in my area.

There was a coyote on the news last night. It was running across a busy intersection in New York City last night.

We have cats, foxes, and coyotes in my 'hood, so we smaller dead animals on our morning walks quite frequently. This is one of the reasons we learned the "Leave It!" command before anything else!

We would be glad to donate some goldfish, frogs and lizards for variety.

I used to be horribly grossed out by the remains of small, dead animals.

Then I got two cats :)

Yep, rabbits and squirrels are at the bottom of the food chain. With spring coming on I will soon be receiving them as 'love gifts' left on the door mat by my 16 year old cat.

This is pretty funny. My mom would love your dogs - her terrier just can't quite kill any squirrels yet. She puts her on "squirrel patrol" in the front yard, but all she does is bark like a loon.
