The wait is almost over

After weeks of waiting we finally picked out our new "little boy" last Saturday.  It was not easy.  How do you choose the dog for you from a litter of 9?  There were 3 girls and 6 boys.  Most of the girls were already taken when our turn came around.  But there were still 5 boys and 1 girl for us to choose from.  But after an hour of petting, playing, and cuddling Rhonda, Rachel, and I decided.  We chose the puppy known as "black boy".  Our name for him is Hero.

 

Hero is a beautiful apricot F3 labradoodle.  He is the son of Autumn and Cooper of Lighthouse Labradoodles in Warwick, RI.  Judging from the size of his parents he will be about 45 pounds when fully grown and his head will come up to my waist.   We played with his parents for a little while and they are both wonderful dogs.

 

Now we have to wait until August 21, 2011 when Hero can come home to stay with us.  We are keeping busy buying crates, gates, toys, mats, and many other puppy goodies.  We are watching training videos, reading books, browsing websites and learning as much as we can in anticipation of Hero's arrival.

 

We can hardly wait!

And by the way, a dog's name that ends in the "o" sound is easier for the dog to learn and hear--my youngest doodle is named Rio and it is true that he hears his name!

We chose him because his coat was a little bit redder than his siblings and he was one of the first to come running when I shook my keys.
