We were at a rescue event in Irvine, CA and a woman came up to us and asked if she could trade in her dog for a smaller one. I thought at first that she was joking but, she was totally serious. The dog at ten pounds was bigger than she wanted.
I told her that we would accept her Maltese as an owner surrender but there would be no way that she would get a dog from us. She was indignant and said, "I haven't had the dog all that long, just 9-months!"
There are all kinds of people in the world but that takes the cake!

I don't know how I would have responded. I would later have thought to say "I hope your husband trades you in for a new, younger, smaller model" or something. Ha!
Wow! How about a punch in the nose! That's the reason why I would never be able to work at a shelter. I would beat the snot out of somebody like that.
Adrianne, I did tell her that there would be no way that I would allow anyone who dumped their own dog to adopt one of our dogs...
In retrospect, I should have offered her a hundred bucks for her dog! I could have retrieved that with an adoption fee. To tell you the truth though, I was so angry that I wasn'd thinking straight! Poor dog and lousy person!
This is horrible. What is wrong with people? How could you not bond to your dog in 9 months??
Whoa! that is hard to take in! How very sad for the dog:(
Wow. Just, wow.
Ugh! And they live among us.......
Sadly, this doesn't surprise me one bit.
I love Maryann's idea of trading her a stuffed toy dog for her Maltese. Perfect!
This is unbelievable!!!
