Guinness and Murph are both ALDs.....true Guinness is a mini, and Murph is a big guy, but they're both ALDs. I was thinking today that they are as different as day and night. Here are a few examples of what I mean...
Last night I gave each of them a marrow bone. Guinness took it right to his downstairs bed and dug in. Murph kind of dragged it around for a while, and then settled on the foyer rug with it. Guinness went first for the little pieces of meat on the outside and then got his little tongue right in to get the marrow. Murph started trying to eat it...he just kept chewing, not even noticing the marrow. Guinness had his bone sucked dry before Murph figured out that he'd have to use his tongue. I stopped even paying attention for a while and then Murphy came over with the bone and dropped it at my feet...he wanted me to throw it for him like a ball. Hello????? So I figured it was time to pick them up...but Guinness's was nowhere to be found. I looked everywhere...no bone. At bedtime I found that he had taken it upstairs and hid it under his bed....now that's planning ahead.
Example number two...we got these new things that go on the bottom of the rungs of our kitchen chairs so they don't scratch the floor. They look a little like balls. Guinness smelled them when we first put them on, and that was the end of it. Murph is convinced that the ARE balls, and he can't figure out how to get them off so he can play with them. They are making him crazy!
This morning we had a training session...back to the bike path. It was still wet and there were lots of earthworms. Murph decided he was a little tired at one point and laid right down....on top of the worms. Guinness seemed grossed out that he was even stepping on them. Of course, one got embedded into Murphy's fur....really embedded. I had to try to pull it off, but it was so stuck that I was only getting pieces of the worm. So we came home, and I planned to go back after all the worm "guts", but I had an errand to do first. When I got back they were gone....he must have chewed them off...EWWW.
So those are my boys. It's hard to believe that they could possibly be the same breed...such totally different temperaments. They keep me laughing.

I think this is Nature's way of helping you appreciate the unique qualities in each of your boys! They complement each other! ;)
I have to agree with the other moms here as I have four children each one so different from the others that, if I had not given birth to them myself, I would swear there had been four different moms. I like to think they are like that to keep me from becoming complacent in my parenting (and from getting any sleep at all!). Perhaps Guinness and Murphy are just trying to keep you on your toes.
hahaha! The part about the earthworms is awful! I hate those things! I step over them every time I see them on the ground after a big rain! But hey...I have plucked a dead, squished frog out of Parker's mouth AND watched a dead bird's feet go down his throat after he ignored us yelling at him NOT to go near the dead bird! Boys will be boys I guess! haha
I know that Murph has caused you some problems, but I love how up-front he is. No need to hide the bone - keep it out in the open. Got worms on my fur? Who cares? He is really un-complicated isn't he? Just like a real boy. Guiness on the other hand is probably, in secret, working on the cure for the common cold that has eluded scientists for centuries.
I am thinking the same thing as Doris. I have two daughters that are as different as night and day and now history is repeating itself with my dogs. At least my two dogs are not moving to Oregon :) I love that my two dogs are so different, because like you, it makes me laugh. I also love that Guinness hid his bone and that Murphy thought you were supposed to throw the bone instead of chew it. Sure does make the day interesting. LOL
Oh dear doodle - just the subject! Your guys are too adorable and they remind so much of Rooney (Guinness) and Stuart (Murph). Rooney is 21.5 lbs to Stuarts 60+, Rooney is more reserved, hates to get wet or dirty, too smart for his own good, gets scared easily. Stuart is my swimmer, a big ol goofy love bug that thinks he is a lap dog. Stuart taught Rooney (thanks a bunch) how to bark. Stuart is the toy destroyer of ALL of Rooney's beloved stuffies. One a medium ALD, the other a Goldendoodle, one an expensive purchase from a breeder, the other an expensive rescue - LOL. So glad that they bring you joy - twice the stress, money and time = TWICE THE DOODLE LOVE! I sure hope someday that I'll meet your guys - I so feel like I know them.
The only thing similiar with my to doodles... are they are doodles !!!! Totally different in personality, looks, likes and dislikes. Sasha is my little princess AKA nervous Nilly and Ollie is my big lug !!! He is a mellow kinda guy and Sasha is always going at full speed. I must admit that they have the same "play" intensity and really play well together but as far as toys and bones, etc. Ollie dives right in and goes to work... Sasha daintly enjoys her treats.
Reminds me of my two sons . . . .one very large, one small (until recently!!) one likes one thing the other hates that thing and vice versa. Same parents, same environment, same everything, but two different kids! And yes I love them both!! (But Bodi isn't going away to college, so he gets ALL the lovin' these days!)
This is so funny and it just goes to show that dogs like humans are all different. We constantly look for similarities but in reality it is the differences that make all of our dogs unique.
