Vern is now bigger than Fudge. He outweighs her by about 20 pounds. He gets neutered on Wednesday, so I will get his weight then. I know he is heavy, because I pulled something in my back lifting him down from our very high bed. He likes to catapult himself into your arms from the bed and I guess I was not prepared for his dismount. He can't jump onto the bed just yet, but he jumps up excitedly and puts his two front paws on the bed and then dances around until someone can hoist him up. Vern thinks everyone should be as excited to see him as he is to see them. He is space challenged, as he thinks he can fit his large body into any narrow space. Think Winnie the Pooh and the Honey Tree.
Last night, we were in bed channel surfing and stopped at the movie "Remember the Titans". Vern sat up on the bed and was mesmerized by the show. He watched it for a good 15 minutes, cocking his head from side to side, and eventually laid down at the end of the bed still watching the TV. I guess my husband has someone in the house now that will watch football with him.
Fudge can no longer out run Vern and Vern is often hanging onto her tail as she flies around. She is so tolerant of Vern and will just go to a quiet spot when she wants to escape him. I love watching them play. Vern will race up to Fudge with something in his mouth and it seems like he should be yelling "I got something you want" or just leap on her to get her attention. Fudge is much more clever and will just prance by him slowly with a toy she knows he likes in her mouth. She doesn't make eye contact, but just walks by and all of a sudden, Vern notices it and the chase is on. Refined is the word I would use to describe Fudge.
Vern is also a messy, messy, boy. He looks adorable when I take him to the groomer and then two minutes out of the car he is rolling in the dirt. He races out to our yard every morning and rolls on his bed and in the dirt and half the yard is hanging off of him when he comes back in the house. The other day he had leaves stuck to his back side and some mud on top of his head. I am one step away from OCD (and the one step is debatable with my family) with keeping my house clean, so Vern should never have landed at our house, but I am glad he did. Fudge will not drink out of the water dish after Vern and I sometimes feel my full time job is changing the water dish after Vern slops it up. Fudge does not drop one morsel of food on the floor when she is eating and Vern makes a trail with his food all over the house. He is like my husband....you can tell where he has been in the house by the mess he leaves :)
