My daughter is getting married in one week. For the last two years, I have been planning this wedding. The bride is in school and in her own words, "just wants to show up." My next daughter, I am paying her to elope, because I would like to retire as a wedding planner. What does this have to do with Vern, our 5 month old labradoodle? Well, the last few months have been hectic and what have I been letting slide......hmmn, home cooked meals, biking, exercise, and Vern's training. No where was this more apparent than the other night when Vern met the dog sitter who will be watching him in our home. It is a friend's son.
Anyway, the son and his girlfriend walked in and Vern immediately peed (in excitement) all over the girlfriend's foot. He has not done this in a very long time, so who knows why he chose that moment to start again. He was beside himself with joy at the appearance of these strangers and proceeded to run around in a wild frenzy. I took them downstairs to our family room and he barreled down the steps...me first, me first....leaped on the couch, tried to fit through a pass way, knocked over a lamp..all while trying to get to the cat. Very good first impression, Vern!
He then decided now would be as good as time as ever to show them how he plays with Fudge. I tried to explain that normally he is a very calm dog, but Vern leaping on top of Fudge was not really helping. I am sure the poor kid was thinking "my mom must hate me to get me this job."
So, on top of the wedding, I have 18 relatives staying part of the week after, along with my daughter, new husband, and their French Bulldog. Is it too late to teach sit, stay, stop, quit, I mean it, leave it, get off Fudge, stop humping, and quiet??
Get ready, Vern, because after the wedding things are going to change around here :)
