This morning, Fudge, Vern, and I were all in bed. All of a sudden, Vern looked up and noticed the ceiling fan. We run the fan year round, so it is not like it is something new. Well, he reared up and backed up and then turned and ran right at me for protection.  It was almost a slinky, low to the bed, kind of run and he looked petrified. I think he stayed low just in case the ceiling fan tried to grab him. He was not taking any chances and continued to sit on me for about ten minutes with his eyes fixated on that dangerous fan. He was afraid to sit under the fan. I told him he was a great watch dog and I always felt safer when he was around.

Vern you are a real character.  :)  AND you're a good watch dog!

Halas doesn't pay any attention to the ceiling fan if it's running.  But if it stops, he stares at it and barks his warning bark.

Jane, Rooney sounds like Vern. He is on full alert when we walk and once, we ran into some people on horseback and I thought he was going to faint. I should always have a camera with me, because sometimes he makes us just crack up at his expressions.

Laurie - Rooney is what I would call very skittish.  He is hyper aware of what is going on around him, he too is always looking behind on a walk - like something might be stalking him, ha ha those wild pigs that we have.  I thought perhaps it was because he was so small that he felt vulnerable.  LOL.  Silly doodles.  Vern - we love you!

Jane, The fan is on today and he has not noticed it at all. He is a silly doodle. I don't think anything is wrong with the fan. I was running it slower than usual yesterday and I think he just looked up and noticed it for the first time.  Keep in mind, he is afraid of the wind and when we are out walking he will look behind him like he is being chased. I think Vern is, how should I put this, more brawn than brains :)

Laurie, this is going to sound goofy but could Vern had heard a difference in the fan that you haven't picked up on.  Perhaps there could be a screw loose or it has come a little unbalanced and he can hear the change?  Dogs are very perceptive so I wouldn't count out that something really did seem wrong to Vern.
