Vern and the Fan

[Laurie, Fudge, and Vern]

This morning, Fudge, Vern, and I were all in bed. All of a sudden, Vern looked up and noticed the ceiling fan. We run the fan year round, so it is not like it is something new. Well, he reared up and backed up and then turned and ran right at me for protection.  It was almost a slinky, low to the bed, kind of run and he looked petrified. I think he stayed low just in case the ceiling fan tried to grab him. He was not taking any chances and continued to sit on me for about ten minutes with his eyes fixated on that dangerous fan. He was afraid to sit under the fan. I told him he was a great watch dog and I always felt safer when he was around.

Our Springer Spaniel - the dog who chases and is cornered by geese, swims after ducks, has brought is birds smothered in slobber, is afraid of feathers - or what he perceives as a feather.  He will jump back and then s-l-o-w-l-y step forward and sniff the offending feather.  Hilarious!

Vern - you are right to protect your mom against the fan.  I protect my mom against, the leaf blower, the vacuum, the long stick the pool guy brings and dozens of other things.  Expect no appreciation as your mom and mine clearly are a bit dim about danger.  It's a good thing they got us!  Keep up the good work.
