Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum
Last Thursday we made an appointment to establish the dogs at a vet and to have Kona's ears examined. He had a double ear infection because while I was on the mainland for two weeks, no one remembered to take care of doodle ears. It's only his second ear infection in six years. Vet visit #1.
Then the crazies happened. On Friday at the beach Kona's eye became bright red and then it was white and swollen! We rushed him to the vet. He had a laceration on his inner eyelid. So very grateful it wasn't on his eyeball! Vet visit #2. Kona stayed there for surgery. We picked him up in the late afternoon. Vet visit #3
The drugs, the cone, the drops… ears and eye, such drama. Monday I dropped into the vet's office with my Pet Plan insurance paperwork. Vet visit #4.
Kona tolerating the cone 24/7 for 10 days. He looks brown but he's gray and black.
But wait, last night Owen slept in our room. He was up vomiting twice and going outside three times straining to defecate . Then he didn't eat his breakfast. In three years of life he has never ever skipped a meal! Off to the vet we went. We were afraid it was a bowel obstruction but are relieved to find out he has the flu! My DH had it last week, I got sick with it Monday night, our DD is sick today. Since when do dogs get the flu that is plaguing the family? They are keeping him overnight administering IV fluids. Vet visit #5. I took them rice and boiled chicken so they wouldn't give him Science Diet ID. Vet visit #6.
We'll be back at the vet to pick up our boy tomorrow. That will be vet visit #7 since last Thursday.
We like our new vet's office. We've met three different vets there and the staff is all very caring. Yay. Ready to start missing therm. ;o)

I picked Owen up from the vet. He is very hungry. We can give him small meals four times a day of rice and boiled chicken. I have it all prepared for a few days. I gave him a tiny meal after he was home for half an hour. He gobbled it up. I will give him more in an hour. He has a prescription for Metronidazole. It seems the IV site is troubling him more than anything else.
Thank you all for listening to my tale of too many vet visits and sending your good wishes.
Yikes, that sure sounds like a nightmare of a week. I'm glad everyone is on the mend and recovering from their illness and or trauma. Hope you all continue to get better.
So sorry for this ordeal.... I am glad everyoe os OK now.....
Thanks everyone. We are waiting with baited breath to hear from the vet if Owen can come home tonight at 8:00 pm.
My goodness, busy week for sure. Hope this will put an end to vet's visits for a looong while. Speedy recovery for everyone in the family!
Wow!!! When it rains, it pours. Thank goodness for pet insurance. When Traz had bloat and a twisted stomach back in July, we became very familiar with the vet and pet insurance forms. Especially because he ended up with foxtails after he was on the mend from the bloat. I was very pleased with how quickly our insurance claims were processed. Hope everyone is back on their feet (2 and 4) soon. Positive thoughts and prayer for your speedy recoveries.
Oh, I so hope both Kona and Owen are feeling better by now. Insurance is a wonderful thing.
Not sure if Kona is looking puny, too. He seems lethargic and a little burpy. No diarrhea or vomiting yet. I think we are all paranoid. ugh.
Aw, I'm so sorry the boys are having such a terrible time right now. Hoping everyone is better very soon!
