Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

I never thought I would say this but, yes, I've become a cult member. There's no mass weddings nor relinquishing of all worldly goods but I'm hooked. As the weather remains cold (not that Oski seems to notice!) we've held off on dropping the pooch off at the groomers to chop off his golden tresses. We've been taking him snowshoeing & swimming & so in the spirit of sympathetic anthropomorphizing, have allowed his hair to grow out till the weather gets a little warmer. Needless to say, at over 4 inches long, brushing has been a bit of a chore for the both of us. He has only had some minor mats along his legs which seem to be related more to biting/itching himself than anything else but there still is more flinching & licking ("All done, right? [licklick] I luuurve you! [slurp] All done?") the longer his hair gets & Oski is pretty patient & tolerant of anything we do to him so I suspect that he's been pretty miserable with brushing time.

After reading everyone's miraculous transformations with the Les Poochs brushes where doods that would run when the brush was pulled out are now transformed into sleeping, non-squirming groom-ees I decided to take the $75 plunge. And no, I don't even have a brush much less anything that approximates this pricey, dear brush, LOL. It arrived today in an über fancy plastic box with custom rests to keep it from knocking around. Taking it out of the box I felt like Arthur unsheathing Excaliber from the stone ready to do battle with swirls of mud & dog saliva from Oski's daily playdates. The curry comb side really does smooth down the hair nicely with almost no tugging sensations. The pooch didn't even feel it & sighed in contentment with being brushed--what he used to do before his Rapunzel transformation. The angled brush side/dematter is toothier & definitely grips as it pulls through but is still very gentle while getting all the way down to the skin making it much more effective at brushing out dried mud than his old brush. The only place that he flinched a little with this was along his face which gets really gnarly with saliva from all the wrestling/playbiting he does--overall less arduous than with his old Master Grooming Tools slicker brush (which of course costs 10X less, lol). The worst part, is his long tail hair that resembles a horses tail--no real improvement with that I'm afraid, it's just too long & the hair is prone to getting pulled out with any type of brushing. The cool thing about the brush is the flexible body which eliminates hand fatigue while also having some give/spring when going over curves without requiring you to push down to maintain contact on concave surfaces, much easier on you & the your subject!

Here's a look at his fur up close after brushing: it looks like plushie! Very smooth & combed through to the skin.

So, at least twice as fast, easily 5X more effective in removing dried mud, overall less uncomfortable for the pooch & me, & 10X as expensive. The verdict? 2 dew claws up says the snoozing doodle at my feet!

Ok, count us in with the converted! We just spent $60 at the groomers today for Muphy. She had gotten a "puppy cut" in December. Her hair (more fleecy than wooly) was so soft and mat-free afterward that I didn't need to brush her out for a couple of weeks. Then due to the fact that I'm old and have selective memory and the fact that Murphy runs to the bedroom when I bring out the brush, I hadn't brushed her out since her puppy cut in Decemeber. We took her to the groomer this morning with our heads held down in shame. I told the groomer that I had been neglectful of my duties. I wanted Murphy to keep her longer locks (she's sooo cute with long hair) but I understood if the groomer had to do another puppy cut. As I was chatting, the groomer was running her hand thru Murphy's coat and said that the mats were so bad she might have to shave her! My first thought was: "Will she be too embarassed to show up at the prom in March (our next Portland Group Doodle romp)?"

Well, we just picked Murphy up from our Miracle Worker Groomer! She was able to save the day with another puppy cut - short but still cute. Murph should be in full glory by prom!! Moral of the story: I'm buying one of those fancy-schmacy brushes never to neglect my duties of Doodle owner again!!

I agree 100% with all that was said. Lucy loves it and so do I, in fact I am ready to buy my second one as the first one I bought was a long time ago and It is really not big enough for her. They are well worth the money. I hear you about brushing the tail though and I went to tractor supply and bought a cheapy horse tail comb and that is what I use on Lucy's tail. Does a pretty good job.

I feel like I should set up some type of altar for it so we can bask in its glory, LOL

I bow in the presence of its greatness! We have the smaller purple one, since Halas is a mini, but it has bent teeth on both sides, instead of the straight teeth on one side. But the bent ones work fine for us. It takes less time to brush him, or I can spend the same amount of time as I used to, but do a much more thorough job. I have to admit, I no longer keep it in the case, but I do lay it on top of the case. I never really put it away. It's expensive enough to qualify as some sort of decorative item, so I leave it out on the counter for all to see.

LOL! A little birdie named Rosco whispered to me that he wants to hear angels sing too. ;)

I heard angels sing as the photo of the Les Poochs filled my screen. All hail the power of wonder tools!
