Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

I am so excited about getting a puppy in May. This will be my first pet that is my very own and as my mom keeps reminding me "my responsibility". Although I know it will be alot of work, I am really excited. I love animals, especially dogs and cats. My doodle should be ready by May 2012 and it couldn't come fast enough. Hopefully by that time, I can prepare and get everything that is needed for my puppy. My boyfriend suggested that I have a "puppy shower" in a very sarcastic tone haha. He makes jokes about me buying puppy things, but he is very excited as well. We are very active and both love animals and can't wait to be able to take this dog on runs, hikes, and many other adventures. I have waited four years of college to get my very own dog and the time has finally come. Alot of my friends are having babies right now but all I want is a puppy, haha! I can't wait to learn more about goldendoodles and start this exciting time in my life! If anyone has any suggestions on what I need before my puppy comes, they would be greatly appreciated! :) Also, any cute name ideas throw them my way!! It could be a boy or girl.

Yours Truly,

Jessie

If you have carpets get the bissell SpotBot #33N8A  you can get it through Amazon. will save your carpet from puppy accidents..just ask Dori and Rua. Lilly msut have peed a million times on her white carpet and you can't even tell.  I use the chris christensen butter comb on Lilly, really takes the tangles out. I also use their Ice on Ice product for detangling.  and yest the waiting is.the.worst.

I forgot to add doggy stain and odour remover for those inevitable accidents!

Congrats on your new family member to be!! The waiting is just the WORST!!! I would suggest you research pet insurance. Many people here on DK have insurance for their doodles as vet prices have been increasing along with so many other things.

You're smart to be doing your research now because once the little one arrives you won't have time! LOL I would suggest you also research the different training methods and have in mind the approach you plan to take with training. And I agree with all of Kaytlin's suggestions! Good luck! Can't wait to see your baby in May!

Glad you found the site! That's a great idea to buy a little at a time to get ready! Saving for the vet is another good idea!

It's tough to wait but it's WELL worth it!

Congrats on your new puppy!  Can't wait to see pictures and hear all about him/her when you get him.

One suggestion - start checking out local Vets now if you don't already have one.  Don't settle, find one that makes you feel welcome, is young enough or is keeping up with the latest technology, truely loves animals, keeps good hours.  Locate your nearest after hours emergency hospital.  You hope you never need that but in an emergency - know where to go.  Good luck on getting your new puppy!!!

now is a great time to start preparing - read up on training and food (check out the puppy madness group and the food group), and buying everything you need. It can be expensive, so start now and buy a little each month

Crate is a must

Xpens are very useful

So are baby gates

bed (expect it to get chewed)

toys

bowls

chews (not rawhide)

leash, collar, car safety harness

Brushes - Les Pooches and Oster dematting rake are the best in my opinion if you have a non shedding dog

Training book - I like Puppies for Dummies and you can get it really cheap usually online

camera to take lots of photos!
