We're back --- and what a story we have to tell...................

As I posted last week we left for the Gettysburg, Pa. Bluegrass Festival last Wed. When we got there they had one of the venders parked in a smaller motorhome than ours, right behind us. He was not even 10 ' behind us and just parked there, not even in a designated site. Well, I didn't like that to begin with, but there was nothing I could do about it. We proceeded to set up.
My granddaughter and I built a fire and roasted hotdogs before we went to bed. At 2 AM while sleeping, we heard knocking on our door then pounding on our bedroom window with someone yelling " your on fire"!!!!!!!! When I looked out the bedroom window it was the guy's motorhome parked behind us that was on fire, flames shooting out of the roof and the whole side next to us flaming!!!!!!!!!!!! My DH went outside to take some blocking down while I put the jacks up and put the gas pedal to the floor to get out of there. I thought we were going to blow up!!!!!!!!! In the mean time, we were still hooked up to the electric, water and cable. I pulled it all loose. The slide was still out and the awning was down, which I forgot about and on the way out of the site I heard a crash. They have a guard gate there with a gate that comes down (like at a railroad track crossing). The gate was up and I ran into it with the awning. There was smoke coming inside our motorhome and my DH said there was smoke coming off the back of ours. We were next to igniting, but didn't. You can see some of the damage to our motorhome in the pics and also a pic of the other mans RV. His RV burned to the ground. He lost everything except the shorts he had on. I thank GOD that we are alive. If that man would not of woke up with the smell of smoke and came and woke us, we would not be here today. I was not able to take Lucy with us on this trip and I feel if she would of been there she would of alerted us before it got that bad. I wear CPAP at night and hear or smell nothing while sleeping. The campground put us up in a cabin that night and then, after talking to the ins. co., we stayed and came home today. They are not able to assess the damage until Wed. Thankfully there is not one bit of damage to the inside or anything electrical. It was determined that the man's frig. started the fire. His smoke detectors were not working. There is much more to this story, but I think you have heard enough to get the picture.
The first pic shows up the side from the back with our bedroom awning melted off
The second pic is of the tail lights
Third pic is of the back and
the last pic is right after we set up when we got there showing how close the other RV was from us.
REAL SCARY !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Believe it or not, she was the only one at the scene that took pictures and also videod it while it was happening. I told her to get out right away and the first thing she did was call her mother then took many many pics. She was safe the whole time. Her birthday is today and is a big 12 years old now.
How I look at it is.......... Our work here on earth is not done.

Oh my, how scary! I'm so glad everyone was all right. How is your granddaughter doing? She has to be so still terribly frightened by this happening.

Our smoke detectors did not go off, but yes they do work and are very sensitive too. On our last trip I had to take out the batteries just to make toast. We had the air conditioners on too and after I pulled it away I did see smoke inside. So, I don't know. I did think we were going to blow up, but in a panic just did what we did. He is usually parked up in venders row, but this year they parked him where he was. If he would of been in venders row there would of been multiple explosions and motorhomes lost, plus life. No one would of been able to get out. It is a nightmare, but we thank God everyone is OK.

HOLY CRAP!!!!! OMG That is so scary!! Why didnt your own smoke detectors go off?? Mine are so darn sensitive they go off with campfires that I have to disable it at times. That is unbelievable! Years ago in a campsite somewhere I cant remember where, that sort of event set off a chain reaction of explosions from the propane tanks. Good thing you took off but awful brave too. You probably should have just headed for the hills. What if it had blown while you were driving! I am so glad you all are OK!!
