What's going on with my doodles hair?

Can anyone help. I love what my puppy looks like. He is about 17 weeks old. For some reason he has one area, on top close to his tail, that is completely different than all the rest. My vet thinks that he is chewing on it. I don't think that is it. It seems like a different texture. Anyone elso have this problem?

Murphy is an F1 Goldendoodle. The change in Murphy's coat started down the middle of his back too. He is 13 months old now and it still seems to be changing. The photo of his back was taken at 4 months;

Tia has a curly spot just where her tail starts. It often is the only hair standing up. Tia is F1 . The hair on her face is rough, ears are soft, for the most part she has Lab hair and standard poodle body. The one thing about T I fell in love with that has not changed is the hair around the edges of her ears looks like eyelashes. I can't get enough of her soft ears!

Blake also has "combination coat".....His head, neck and part of hie legs are wooly like a poodle (yet remain soft not wirey) his body is fleecy/wavy and his underbelly is almost downy......

Rosco's an F1. His coat underwent a funky change around five months. On his back, right above his tail, his first started getting darker (just a little) and coarser and it started moving up his back. That change ended up being permanent. So he has a ridge of coarser hair along his whole spine that ends at the tip of this tail.

That's Samantha! She is a F1 LD. I don't know if the coats of GD are different but this is Samantha's coat history.
When she came home with us at 11 weeks, her entire body was dark chocolate and silky smooth, like a labrador. She had ONE white hair app 2" above her tail on her back. A few weeks later, we were at the dog park and she was ruffhousing with a bigger dog. He just loved mouthing her neck. Within a week, that hair was coming in coarser, wavy and more white hairs. I thought that other dog did something to her skin to make that hair different. Not so - that hair seems to be her adult coat. That coarser, wavy, white hairs are now over her neck to the bottom of her shoulders and above her tail - only down the spine. Her legs are different, the hair around the middle of her back seems to still be her puppy coat. Her head is careml and cafe. A little like Sybil - so many different personalities!
Check out my pictures - I do have to get a picture of her coat at 9 months in there is see all the changes. Only time will tell what her true adult coat will be.
