I started to answer each of you who responded to my blog post of yesterday and decided to just enter another one with the details.
Our baby was born in the wee hours of the morning!!! I was out late (for children) and the kids were at a friend's house. Went to pick them up at 10:30 and 2 of the 3 were still awake!!! The third fell asleep as soon as she knew I was on my way to get them. After I got the children in bed and asleep, I went down to our office to check my emails and DK for postings. I learned that delivery was beginning, and shortly thereafter, the first boy was born! We were first pick for one of the babies and we wanted a girl. Can I tell you how nerve wracking it is to see, "It's a boy!" come on the screen time after time!!! My 3 yr.old woke up to go to the bathroom, so I left the computer to help. This did relieve some of the tension and I knew that by the time I got back another one would probably have been born. I was right; this time I read, "It's a girl!" I felt a big sense of relief. That was short lived though. I really wanted there to be at least two girls, for multiple reasons. One was because our breeder, Teri Fann, had two people wanting girls. The second reason was purely selfish. There would be different personalities from which to pick the right pup! Labor slowed considerably and I found I was having a tough time staying awake. At around 2:45 I finally threw in the towel; I just couldn't keep my eyes open any longer. At this point there were 5 boys and 1 girl. The prediction because of her size based on past litters was that, Tula, the mom, was carrying 7 pups.
First thing this morning, I checked. The final tally was 6 boys, 1 girl. The prediction was right on, but I feel so sad... I know that this other family wanted a female, also.
The theme for this litter is "Books and People of the Bible". The first female was to be "named" Queen Esther. This litter is in honor of my husband, Dirk and I had been doing a Bible study this Spring on the book of Esther. So how appropriate that Queen Esther would be ours. Her offical name will be Cinnamon Hope Esther DeYong, but we will call her Cimmy. 3 yr. old, Emily tells everyone that she is going to have a puppy named Cimmy, so of course, it is set in stone.
I told Dirk about Cimmy's birth. He gave a little smile, but he was very slow in his movements this afternoon. He held Emily's hand while she talked with him about the puppies. I think he was having a hard time grasping the thought of a puppy. I don't think he remembers most of the time that we are getting one. We will share pictures of her with him as we get them... you all, too. And now begins another wait.....
