Hi Jen~ concerning about the crate for your 16 wk pup. When I first brought Sheeba home, she wasn't too crazy about being put in her crate at night time. After 2 nights of listening to her cry, on the 3rd day I decided to try something. I would put her in her crate off and on during the day and I would go in with her part way. I'd rub her ears, belly & talk soothingly to her until she'd fall asleep. I tried to make it a good place for her, so she'd want to go into and sleep. Ever since then, we've had no problems. Hope this idea might help. Good luck.

Welcome. Hi Jen, Nigel is adorable.I noticed you had a question on your page regarding his crate. This would be a perfect item to start a
discussion with but since you didn't I just wanted to tell you what we
did.
The trick is to make the crate a good thing, never ever use it as punishment.
In the beginning we fed Daisy her food in the crate, she would go in eat
and then come out, we didn't do anything but feed her, then we would
toss a toy in and she would go in, after it. After she weny in there a
few times to retrieve her toy we would close the door briefly and the
quickly open it if she whined of squeaked and say GOOD GIRL, and praise
her loudly. After a few of those she would lay there and look at the
crate door longer and longer before she whined or squeaked. The longer
she stayed in and then came out when she asked the better for us. This
process may have taken 2 days tops.
The crate is located in our bedroom so at night we would just say nigh
night and she would go in....the first night she whined a little but we
just said Nigh night Daisy and after that she went to sleep.
I realize she was a pretty easy crater but this method worked for our daughter and her Boxer as well.
She still goes in her crate at 14 months but she has an open door and can go in and out at will.
You
should start that discussion, you will get a lot of help from others
and can choose your method by which would seem to work better for you
and your lifestyle.
