What Type of Doodle(s) do you have? What are their names? Tell us about your doodle(s) or any other pets you have!
Golden Doodle (mom Princess-golden retriever) a nd his dad is a standard poodle named Lance. He is buff colored, curly and non shedding. He weighs 93 lbs. and is 28 inches tall!
Where did you get your doodle(s)?
Breeder
Why did you choose a doodle rather than another breed or mix?
Originally wanted a golden retriever but didn't want the shedding. Worked in a school where the social worker had a Golden Doodle as a therapy dog. I Researched into golden doodles and was hooked! Also, wanted a special dog for my son with special needs. At first I wanted a female, however the breeder suggested a male. She thought he would be bigger (that is an understatement) and would be good for my son to stand and hold onto. She was right! Cooper has such a laid back temperment and is such a great friend to us all especially Adam.
What are Your Favorite Things to Do With Your Doodles?
Play Fetch
He loves car rides
Loves Walks
He loves to play volleyball with a balloon - never breaking it- he jumps up to hit the balloon with his nose!
Does your doodle(s) shed?
Nope!
Who grooms your doodle(s)?
Patti Bogart

Married

Hi I am trying to pull together an event in the Albany, NY area regarding children reading to doodles. Are there any members in this area that might be willing to participate. At this point, I think doodles will be required to be certified with some organization. Thanks!

Hi Karen,

I am so envious that you have a place in the Adirondacks. It is such a beautiful place. We went to Lake Placid about 7-8 years ago and loved it. My dream is to have a place on the lake up in Canada when my husband retires. I just love boating!

We have two different life jackets for the dogs. The dark orange one that Rorie is wearing in our profile picture is made by Outward Hound and we got it at PetSmart. It is pretty sturdy. It has a panel that wraps around the dog and velcros across the stomach in addition to three web belts that buckle (2 underneath and one at the neck). It has a handle on the back to help lift the dog out of the water which comes in handy when swimming off the boat.

The one that Riley is wearing in the picture (yellow) is from Overtons.com. It was less expensive than the Outward Hound one. It doesn't have the panel that wraps around the stomach. It just has the three web belts that buckle (2 underneath/1 at neck). It also has the handle on the back.

The Overton life jacket is easier to put on and take off because it doesn't have the velcro. I think it is also cooler for him because it doesn't have the heavy panel around his stomach and the air can get to it. They both have D-rings on the back to attach a leash to but I wouldn't use it. They are made out of plastic and the one on the Outward Hound jacket cracked the first year we had it. I haven't used the one on the Overton jacket because of that.

Good luck!

Hi Karen,

Both my doodles LOVE to swim! Riley started out as a chicken though. The first year he would only put his paws in the water. The next year while we were vacationing up in Canada, sibling rivalry took over. By mid-week he couldn't stand that his sister could swim out and get the toy and he had to wait near shore to steal it from her. He decided to take the plunge, literally. He sank like a rock! The next time he tried, he ended up flipping upside down. Luckily, I had a long leash on him and pulled him out. My daughter suggested putting his life jacket on him. He loved it! He could swim out to the toys faster than his sister and bring them back. When we got home, we took him down to the marina and let him try swimming without the life jacket. He did great. I think he just needed to get the hang of paddling. Now when we go up to Canada for our vacation, the two doodles cry to go swimming every day! They also really love going on the boat. In the summer, they seem to know when we are packing things up to go out on the boat. They wait in front of the door so that we don't forget them!

The best decision we ever made was getting a second doodle! They love playing together and they are so much fun to watch. It is interesting to watch Rorie use her brain (she's the extremely smart one) to manipulate Riley (the more dominant one). You can almost see the gears turning in her head while she outsmarts him, LOL!

I was actually hoping that Rorie and Riley would be a little bigger than they are. I wouldn't trade either of them but our last dog was about 75-80 lbs. and I was hoping they would be in that range. My husband went to pick Riley up by himself and said that Riley's brother was twice his size. I'm guessing that he ended up to be at least 80 lbs. Their golden retriever father weighed about 90 lbs. but I think size-wise they took after their mothers.

It's fun being able to chat with another NY doodle owner. I haven't 'met' too many on these forums!

Hi Karen,

Wow! Cooper does look a lot like Riley but in a bigger package! Riley weighs about 64 lbs. and Rorie is about 60 lbs. What breeder did Cooper come from?

We got Rorie and Riley from breeders in Ohio. They both have the same golden retriever father (Xander). We loved Rorie's personality so much and thought that a lot of it came from the golden side of her lines. When we decided on a second, we went with the breeder that owned her father. It was a great decision! Even though Riley is the complete opposite of Rorie (right down to the color), his personality if ALL golden! He thinks he is a lap dog, LOL!

I am very geographically challenged. Where about in NY is Schnectady? I don't get out of my corner of the state very much! A couple times of year we do go to Syracuse to visit my sister-in-law.

Hi...Cooper is such a love!!! Bocker is certified with Therapy Dogs International. Check out their website http://www.tdi-dog.org/
The Tail Wagging Tutors is a read program for children. Twice a week during school time, the children in the program meet with their tutors (dogs) and read to them. I can send you some information on it if you e-mail me at:
marie@bocker.tv if you like. The program is run nationally and has been a huge influence in helpin children improve their reading and self-esteem.

It's great to find someone local with a Doodle!!!! They are becoming more popular!!!! We have a neighbor that just got a Goldendoodle a few weeks ago. Allie doesn't shed either, and we got her for Allergy purposes, but my Husband just came home from the Doctor yesterday with Allergy induced Asthma because of the dog! So hopefully the medicine they put him on help. If not I think he will have to try the allergy shots! Have a great day!

OMG - I am so jealous - I really wanted Samantha to be a Rockette but it doesn't look like she will make their height requirements.
We just got home fromm her 1st Puppy Agility class. Did she have fun! So far, she's a natural for it. She just loves to perform. She is a Kosher Ham!

HI Karen,
You measure from the floor to the top of his shoulder. Make sure he is standing tall. My husband would be thrilled if Sammie stayed at her 23" but I would like her a little taller. And I also wished I was 20 lbs lighter,
Adrianne
