I was browsing previous posts and noticed that this was discussed before and was looking for any updated information. I was cleaning around my house and found a whistle that my son had received as a birthday party favor and thought I would see if it had any affect on Chewie. Well boy did it !! He stood at attention and looked at and followed me like I was the queen of the castle. I thought he was going to bow !!! But seriously I had his complete attention. I was wondering if this is something that will lose its effectiveness over time or if I have found a miracle cure for misbehavior?

HI Karen! Yes the whistles are great for training. Actually if you google "whistle training" you will find a load of information on it. We used it for feeding times. Unfortunately, we were not consistent as we should have been - but it does work. Use it for POSITIVE reinforcement like for food/treats. She does come running whenever she hears the whistle. I'm not too sure of it for training off leash yet. Good luck! We actuallybvought dog training whistles - one for each of us, but the kid play whistles I think work better for us and Tori.
Thanks for the input. I am going to google that and see what I can come up with !!!
I used whistle to address mouthing issue. I was taught this from the trainer, but she hated it so much, I only had to use it twice or so, and she completely stop mouthing for good. - We blew the wistle when she got mouthy, and leashed her up immidiately on the leash that is long enough for her to sit, but too short for her to lie down. I could not believe that it only took such a sort period to stop mouthing.
