Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

This is Dakota. She was pulled last night from the PSPCA by two wonderful DRC volunteers, and brought to equally wonderful DRC director Lynne Fowler's home at 11 p.m. last night.

Dakota is a 1-2 yr old Miniature Labradoodle. She was brought in as a stray and she has a compound fracture of the left front distal radius and ulna. She must have been hit by a car. She is currently splinted and on Tramadol for pain. This injury will not heal properly with a cast. Her injuries require orthopedic surgery or an amputation.
Dakota is a very sweet and beautiful girl with a great disposition. Despite her injuries she is very active and ready to play.

Dakota was seen by the vet today, and the prognosis for saving her leg with surgery is excellent. The cost of the surgery will be $3200.
The DRC has committed to saving Dakota's leg and she is having the surgery. Having just also taken in a heartworm positive doodle yesterday, this expense will deplete the DRC's reserves, making it difficult if not impossible to save more doodles from euthanasia in kill shelters across the country.

We ask for so much from you here in the Doodle Kisses forum, and you never let us down. The incredible work that the DRC has done this past year, the doodles who have been saved from abuse, illness, and euthanasia, and who now have loving homes, none of this could have been done without you.
We need your help again. Please help us by donating to Dakota's Fund. Anything you send for this purpose will go directly to the vet bills for Dakota's surgery. We will keep a running total of all the funds donated and update you as they are received, as was done last year for Sophie's fund. Crossposting is appreciated, too.
I know none of us has much to spare these days, especially at this time of year, but anything will help. Anything at all.

Please reach down into your hearts and pockets for Dakota. And thank you so much for your help.

Thanks for the photos Lynne. Dakota is so lucky to have you and the DRC.
Dakota looks fantastic! What a wonderful Christmas gift you have given her, thank you Lynne for all you do!
She is a much happier girl now that she's no longer in pain. She can even use the leg now. Before the surgery, she couldn't put any weight on it and now she can. The hard part is keeping her out of the really high snow drifts. We had to shovel the walk and the grass in my yard. Thanks for all the well wishes and the help in paying for her surgery. Happy Holidays to all.
Still missing more than $1,000. to pay for Dakota's surgery... I hope you will receive more checks and donations soon.
Thanks Lynne for advancing all that money for her. You're an angel.
Pat and everyone, Dakota is doing really well. She is now in a soft cast, like I think I told everyone and is getting around much better. We are hoping to have her up for adoption this weekend as we are finishing up year end paperwork. More and more of her personality is coming out as she plays with a toy or a bone. She is a great doodle and was probably loved and trained by someone. She has not had any accidents in the house, has not chewed or torn up anything and has no separation anxiety. Even after all she has been through, she is mellow and happy.

How is Dakota doing now?
She's doing great, and applications are now being accepted for her adoption!

From her listing:

"Dakota is an absolutely beautiful girl with an almost angelic expression on her face. She is currently 38 lbs and will be between 40-45 lbs. once she is completely recovered. She is a medium sized doodle and has a soft fleece non-shedding coat that will require grooming.
Dakota has a fantastic temperament and gets along with other dogs, cats and children. She has a tendency to be somewhat dominant with other females but is absolutely fine with submissive females and male dogs. She is a “snuggler” and a lovebug and is playful well socialized calm, gentle and smart as a whip.
Dakota is spayed, completely housetrained and is UTD on all vaccines and preventatives. She is a great dog and will make a wonderful addition to any family."

That is great - I feel crazy (might be!) but I didn't see Lynne's posting with new photos when I asked for the update. You must think I am nuts!

This is good news though...
I don't think you're crazy at all! I was glad you asked about her! And donations are still needed, so it's good to keep this discussion bumped up in the forum!
