I was wondering if anyone has heard of giving a half of a baby aspirin to prevent carsickness?
Thanks - We had a really bad experience this weekend and it is getting really hard to take him in the car at all.

I've never heard of baby aspirin, but I have tried Dramamine. Cocoa has really bad motion sickness, and I must admit it didn't help. She used to throw up after 5 minutes in the car, now that she is 5 months she can go up to 10 or (maybe) 15 minutes. We recently took her on our family vacation, which involved a two hour car ride. She vomited twice each way, was drooling profusely, and looked like she felt miserable. We'd love to take us around town with us, but it just isn't going to happen in the near future.
Yeah, that sounds about exactly like our experience yesterday. I did not know he could drool so much. I felt so bad for him. I had heard about the Dramamine and also heard that it did not work that well either. Funny thing is that he just started this about a month ago. We had a 5 hour car trip to pick him up from the breeder and he was perfectly fine. Thanks.
how old is your dog? Puppies do not have the enzyme needed to process aspirin, so do not give it to him unless your vet approves!! Have you tried putting your dog on the floor or in a crate covered with a blanket so he can't see out the window? Dogs often outgrow the tendency to get car sick; one of mine stopped puking in the car around the age of 1. I've heard of people giving their dogs Dramamine (sp?), but I'd check with the vet first to see if it's ok for your dog.
Chewie is 17 months old. I have tried the crate but he got sick in that also. He used to be fine on the floor, but now he can jump up on the seat and that is when he started getting sick again. Yesterday we made sure he stayed on the floor and he still got sick. The worse he ever has. The only time that he has not gotten sick was when I held him, but I cannot do that if I am by myself with him. I have to take him for a shot tonight and I am really dreading it !! He used to be fine in the car but as he is getting older he is getting worse.
that's too bad - I guess you could make sure not to feed him before a car ride and see if you can get a prescription at the vet for car sickness. Good luck.
the baby aspirin doesn't sound like a good idea to me. Aspirin can cause gastritis in people which would only make things worse. I can't think how it could help.
Thanks that's kind of what I was thinking !!!
Have never had this problem with my Chewie, but my friend has a Labradoodle that used to get carsick. Her vet prescribed a medication based on his weight that worked like a charm. He eventually outgrew it. Sorry you're having this problem. :(
Thanks - I am going to see what the vet says tonight. We start puppy classes Wednesday night and it is a 20 min ride in the car.... Should be interesting. Do you know if the medication made her dog drowsy?
Guinness has a prescription for carsickness. It's called Cerenia and it is non drowsy.
Is this something that you can use for all trips in the car? (even less than 10 minutes to the vet) he started getting sick less than 5 minutes into the trip. Thanks
I think so. You give it one hour before travel. Guinness only gets sick after 20 - 25 minutes, so I don't have to use it for the real short trips.
