Any advice on camera cases? I saw what looks like a nice one on Amazon. I remember hardly ever closing the leather case, during a day out,on my old SLR because it was a pain to do. Here's the amazon address: Camera Case
I can comfortably fit my digital SLR camera WITH a 70-200 lens attached to the body. Plus there's room for a flash unit on one side of it and an extra lens on the other side. It has several convenient pockets/compartments on it, too.
I used to like the ones like a backpack - until I got more than one lens. The backpack style seemed handy at first, but then I realized it was a pain in the but to have to stop, take it off, swap lenses, put it back on - I found I preferred a messenger-style lens bag that holds the essentials plus three lenses, so I can swap out lenses without having to take the bag off. That's just my shooting style, though - to each their own. Plus I am like OCD about changing lenses depending on the situation :)
Anyway, my bag is a Shootsac - pricey but worth every penny! I love the designer interchangeable covers, I've picked up a couple on Ebay cheap. The website is www.shootsac.com The shootsac really is just a lens bag - I lug all my gear and my camera body in one of these totes - I love it because it's got tons of little pockets. I have one for my horse as my grooming gear bag, too. http://www.smartpakequine.com/ProductClass.aspx?productclassid=5445
Happy shopping!
I checked out the shootsac. Those are cool, but you're right - they are pricey. I wondered if the same thing could be accomplished with a Built NY bag. I checked out their website, and saw that they do make camera bags. Still pricey, but cheaper than the shootsac. www.builtny.com. I'm going to try to find some better pics of the interior and specs on the size.
I have a holster case similar to that one but I'm not fond of it. It is only good if you are going out with the lens that is on your camera. There is no room for additional lenses in the case. If you want it for single lens outings then you need to buy one that will accommodate your longest lens. I have backpack type sling case made by Pro Master that I like a lot. There are small ones and that is the kind I have. I am able to carry the body, three lenses (max) and an external flash. The interior has a divider sort of like a layered bag. The top layer I keep memory cards, note pads, cleaners, wipes and stuff. Flip that back and there is the place where all the camera stuff goes. You have velcro dividers that you can move around to make compartments for your lenses and stuff. It has a pouch on each side (outside) which you can put your battery charger in, external flash or your wallet, cell phone, etc. It also has a bungee type lacing system where I am able to put my mini tripod. The big tripod I have to sling over the other shoulder in its own case. The camera bag also has room for the "instruction manual" which is a must!!!! My kids always give me a hard time because I am on a quest for the perfect (lightweight) luggage and the perfect camera case. At the moment I am concentrating on the camera case. Let us know what you decide!!!
I just purchased 2 Lowepro Micro Trekker 200's for both my hubby and myself as we both invested in new camera's. My son mentioned he thought it was bigger than what he liked, but for us, we prefer to have too much room than not enough, the sling feature is great. In Canada it was 100.00 each on sale.
I bought an inexpensive camera case at Sams Club that holds my camera and three lenses just fine along with spare battery, cables, etc . . . Often when I take Dakota for a walk (generally down to the lake at our lake house) I will take just my camera and my every day lens; and I will usually tote my 300mm lens in a fanny pack just in case . . . I really don't like to haul my camera case with all the lenses unless I am seriously going out with a photo purpose in mind . . .
