Golden Doodle with severe cough and post nasal drip
Hello,
I suspect my doodle has allergies. She has been coughing for 7 weeks. SHe is 5 months old. She had cochcidia when we got her (I didn't know) and was very ill for weeks. During the time we were treating her for that and trying to get her on dog food, she began this cough. They thought it was kennel cough (though I had not had her anywhere) and put her on more antibiotics. This poor little thing has lived 3 of her 5 months on drugs. They are wanting to scope her and do chest/neck head x-rays. We are now seeing relief on antihistamines they prescribed for me but I am trying to find out what she can be allergic to. I thought food perhaps and we are changing that over to the Wellness fish and sweet potato . Other people say dogs don't cough from allergies. It is a long story, but we have been through a ton ($$$ and lack of sleep and worry) so if anyone can help, I would really appreciate it! She is growing and active and happy except for the cough! It is all in her throat. Lungs are clear. And it is mostly at night. She coughs until I'm afraid she is going to aspirate, or she throws up. Any thoughts for me??

You know, the window thing is not an association I have made before, but you may be right. Our Fall/cold wet came really early this year in Northern Michigan. I also think about the furnace running and the dry house. I'm getting a humidifier for our bedroom as soon as I get a chance this week. I don't use bedding, only a couple of layers of towels because she often pees in her crate. I never use any scented fabric softener or dryer sheets or detergent because I am allergic and have lots of skin issues. I wash her crate with baking soda and water. I am really wondering about the plastic crate I switched her into and some gas or chemical in it. I was going to bring the old wire crate upstairs but the vet suggested I not switch too many things at once or I won't know what has helped.
