Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

...of course, everybody here knows by now that the puppies sold in pet stores come from puppy mills. And hopefully, none of you patronize these stores by purchasing ANYTHING from them, not a toy, not a collar, nothing...because to do so is using your hard-earned dollars to support cruelty.
Well, it has come to my attention that several brands of dog food which purport to be premium brands, and whose advertising includes lots of references to how much they care about the health and well-being of dogs, are being sold at a large pet store in my town, namely "Puppy Palace." I have already sent e-mails to Nature's Variety and Wellness companies, advising them of my intention to stop buying their products as long as they sell them at stores which survive on cruelty to animals. I intend to force myself to go into the pet stores in my area and see which "premium" brands are sold there, and send similar e-mails to all the companies. I intend to publicize this in every way I can. I am asking you to join me.
After all, you cannot buy designer cosmetics at the corner drugstore; you must go to higher end department stores to buy these 'premium" products. You cannot buy these premium dog foods at the grocery store...why should you be able to buy them at a place which is one step up from a puppy mill?
I am asking every parent of a rescue dog, and every doodle owner who cares about dogs, to join me. Please visit any puppy mill store in your area, take note of the brands they sell, and post your findings on this forum. Send an e-mail or use the 800 number to call the company and complain. These companies are charging you a premium for these foods; they claim to care about your dogs. let them put their money where their mouths are.
Thank you all,
Karen & Jack

Agreed!....I believe that there are several "premium" and holistic dog foods that have a policy to not do business with an establishment that actually "sells" live animals for profit...I believe a few of them are Merrick, Halo, Wellness, Nutro to name a few...I will keep my eyes open....
Wellness lists "Puppy Palace" on their website as a location to buy their food in my area. "Innova" and "Nature's Variety" do as well. "Solid Gold" does not. I am going to visit this week-end (believe me, easier for me to jump into a snake pit) and see for myself.
Im in! Let's list any contact info we can find here too to make it a no brainer for others to start contacting companies too.
Thank you, Lynne. Great Idea! here's the website for Nature's Variety, to start. They do not list an e-mail address or a phone #, just a "contact us" box where you can submit a message.

Thank you Stacy:
I have the contact info for these companies here on this forum. Any calls, letters, etc., will help. The puppy mill/pet store problem is one which I know many responsible breeders are concerned with, and the only way we can do something about them is to act together.
Thanks again, Karen

I suggest that when calling or e-mailing, you mention your appreciation of whatever qualities cause you to buy it, and how much you would hate to stop buying it, but...
If you have a Petsmart or other rescue-friendly store in your area which does not stock it, ask why the food is not sold there.
Thank you for the love, responsibility, and dedication you show to these dearest friends of ours, whose voices we must be
I hear that!
I have never been in a pet store that sells puppies. We have a lot of pet stores in my area, just none of them sell puppies. Thankfully, I do not know what I do if I saw puppies being sold out of cage.....
If I ever do fine one, I will take note for sure.
In Tacoma there was this place called the B&I that had Ivan the Gorilla, I never went to see him there. They moved him to some Zoo out east.
Even Zoos bother me a bit.
Pet land, Puppy palace, etc., are nationwide, and you can bet there is one someone in your vicinity. On switchboard.com, you can do a search for "pet stores" if you would like to find out. Even if there is not one near you, if you feed one of above brands, we appreciate your help in convincing them not to sell to the stores that support puppy mills.
Thank you for anything you can do.
Are pet stores here do not sell dogs...........they only have the Rescues come in once a month to find homes for those dogs:) I didn't even know there were Pet store who still sell dogs:(
Hi Tamara:
I'm curious...where do you live? No Petland, no Puppy Palace, Poochie Palace, etc in your area? These are nationwide chains. Many people are surprised when they go into these places which they assume are pet supply stores, to see puppies there.
Even if your immediate area doesn't have them, if you feed one of the above foods, we appreciate any help you can give in helping to shut down the puppy mills & stores that sell their dogs.
No, never heard of them. We live on Michigan. We have Petsmart, Soldans, and Petco. We used to have Petland....they sold dogs here in our city, but that closed down about 5 years ago.

Oh, yes.....you have my help. My older dog was rescued from a puppy Mill.....SOoo sad:( But, she is in a loving home with us now:)
