I was asking Tori what toy she wanted to play with one day last week.  I sat there as if she was actually going to answer me.  Then I thought for a minute and started to count how many words she really did know. So far I know she knows 6 names, the names of each of her toys, window, squirrel, bus walk, out door, trot, not to mention all of her commands, carrot, meatball, leash, and many more. I am actually starting to make a list.  What will I do with the list? Don't know.  Maybe I'll put it up on the refrigerator with the kids' report cards!

The last time I made a list like that, it was written in my daughter's baby book!
I would have to sit down and write it out, too. I'm not sure about some of the words he recognizes. For example, the word "want" will usually elicit a cocked head, but I think that's just because I preface so many sentences with "Do you want..." So I don't know if "want" counts as a word he knows, lol. This should be interesting.
I think they know certain phrases as well as individual words. Some of their commands are phrases like "Go to your bed."
Pancake as an alarm, that's funny. Mine come running and get into their crates when I say peanut butter.
Yup! Our "magic word" is "meatball". She runs to the freezer to be sure I am taking out the little container and then bee-lines for her crate, runs inside and just sits there.
Oliver knows the basic words, sit stay etc, he knows different phrases, like Karen said Do u want? he knows people by their names if I say someone is coming over , or I tell him go to a certain person, he knows their names, he knows the word cheese, apple and dessert, I never really figured out how many he knows, but it must be a lot, lol..
Something to think about for sure. I'd have to make a list. It is interesting what they pick up on thier own. It would neat to do this and see how many new word/ phrases we teach and add to the list.
So far I have 25 that I think she reacts to. I am still working on it.=))))
What a smart doodle!

Lilly is gorgeous! 25 is great~we are all work in progress :-)
Callie knows a lot of words/phrases (I think): sit, stay, up, down, lay down, lay keppie/gay schluffen (yes, I throw yiddish in there), tennis ball, kong, hot dog, piggy, antler, bone, kisses, bed, snuggle, come, no, night night (means go upstairs for Callie), outside, bye bye car, cream cheese, park, etc. I may be a little biased (duh) but she seems exceptionally bright (until she eats her own barf)
LOL!
I knew a family who taught their dog "treyf" and "kosher". They'd put a treat on the floor, point at it and say "Treyf"!
and the dog wouldn't touch it. Then they'd say "Kosher", and she'd gobble it down!
My cousins used to do that with their golden retrievers! It was the cutest trick! You don't happen to know the Angels from Memphis TN do you?
