Here is a really great example of the differences in our cameras. I don't know if many of you read my discussion on sensor differences. I am probably pretty unique in this group in that I shoot with Olympus. Olympus is a 4/3 platform, vs Canon/Nikon which are 3/2. It is my belief that neither is better or worse but they are different. Olympus has some very distinct advantages for me, which is why I'm committed to it, but it also has some distinct disadvantages. One real disadvantage is that upping the ISO introduces more noise into a 4/3 sensor that it does into a 3/2. BUT, having said that, I am so accustomed to shooting at 100, I most certainly could have tested a photo at 200, or matbe even 300, and that certainly could have made a difference--thanks for pointing that out!!
I understand what you mean. I took the above shots indoors, obviously, and I too have only the camera flash. I did want to change only on variable at a time to make things simpler. What Sue says below is obviously another way to compensate.
I was having the same issue, and Halas wasn't into sitting still for the entire time that my shutter was open.

You had a very beautiful subject matter and it looks like he/she did not blink an eye. Very nice difference between the two. Ok, now you have inspired me and I will do mine on Friday with good lights. Now just to hypnotise the dog to hold still! Good work, Eva
I like the first one because the doodle is "spotlighted." It think you did a wonderful job because you can see the difference. Mine were virtually the same because, apparently my shutter speed automatically adjusted so...... at this point it is automatic for me 'cause fussing with stuff seems useless - I would miss the shot! But that is just me perhaps.
Halas didn't feel much like cooperating with picture taking tonight. And with the shutter open for a long time, I didn't have a chance of a non-blurry picture at a higher aperture. I'll try again tomorrow or Saturday in better light, but for now, I borrowed some of Halas' toys.
This one is f/29
This one is f/4. You can see toys in the background are not in focus.
