jump onto the bed . . . but not quite make it?????

I don't really know how to describe this . . . but Bella is one cooky character.  At first we thought that it was just because she was small and didn't know quite how to make it all the way onto the bed, but it has continued and continued.  We pat the bed, invite her up, she jumps, and her chest hits the edge of the bed and she makes not attempt to fix the situation.  She lies with her head and front legs on top of the bed while she stands on her hind legs to keep herself steady and acts as if she really believes that she is ON the bed.  She'll even go to sleep like this, or attempt to roll over to get a belly rub.  Does anyone know what I'm talking about???? Is she just a little dim or does she really enjoy this?

That's funny. I thought she couldn't make it onto the bed because she was too small to jump that high, but from your pics I see that is not the case...she's not small and the bed's not that high...LOL. Chewie can't jump onto my bed which is very high unless he has a running start, but he's a mini dood. He does get on the couch though and "drape" himself over the back cushions...picture hind legs on the seat cushion, belly resting on the top of back cushions and front legs over the back of couch. He loves this position and has actually napped that way for an hour or so. I really should take a picture.

Who knows why they do the things they do, but it sure is entertaining!

Oh, I think this is just a Doodle trait. Gracie Doodle is a beautiful jumper and can jump over 4 ft. high fences and gates. Her "crate" IS our bed. This is her main hangout and she can easily clear the height. But, there are times when I come into the room and there she is just like Bella. And yes, she has fallen asleep like that too!!!! Silly girl. I don't know if it just feels good or if she is too tired to jump...I doubt that though. I do know when she was a baby and couldn't make it up on the bed, she would assume the position and wait for one of us lift her back half up. Gracie did this for a really long time when my husband was around. I told him he was enabling her and that she was very capable of jumping up. Sure enough, she was just playing him!!! I think maybe some of it goes back to "when I was a puppy you used to...." and it is maybe her way of having us making contact with her or play the game. I don't know why...our entire life seems to revolve around my Princess. She gets so much touching, hugging, kissing that I think she gets tired of it. I can't keep my hands off her and want to hug and squeeze her all the time and kiss her big black nose!

Ned NEVER wants to miss the action. Our bed is quite high and he learned to jump on it when he was really young and small. He is pretty assertive and if he thinks one of the other dogs (mostly Gordie) has something he might want, he insists on his share. Maybe your pretty girls don't have to share. What I love is the way Ned gets off of the bed. He jumps with all four legs stretched out like a flying squirrel, and then lands delicately on all four feet.

Webster used to do this on the couch. He's not allowed on the couch so he'd stand with his front legs on our lap or next to us. Now, he is so big that he sits on his bottom and puts his front legs on the couch. When he decides to stand up, he spreads himself over half the couch. Makes a nice lap warmer on a cold day :-)

YES! Jordan can get on the left side of the bed no problem, but the right side she struggles and it makes me laugh every time.Especially since I am trying to help her up. I am sure it is humiliating for her. Jordan also does not jump, she can maybe get 2 inches of air when she jumps.It is really more of a hop. :)
