Here is what I came up with....
It seems like aperture is the hot topic lately, so let's utilize that and explore aperture!
Take two photos this month using two radically different Fstops of the same scene so we can all see the compare/contrast difference between the two. Go as sharp & high as you can with maybe F22, and then as wide open as you can with a low F# like 3.5, or even 1.8 if you have lenses capable. I attached a picture that explains aperture below. Use the "A" or aperture priority mode on your DSLR or go wild and manual if you are fearless :)
In an effort not to exclude point & shooters, take 2 pictures this month using two different settings on your camera of the same scene. For example, one picture with the camera set to landscape, and one of the same scene with the camera set to portrait. Let's see what those point & shoots can do!
Oh, and of course - the two pictures must have a doodle in them :)
You are all too kind. Some of the photos probably were with my old SLR but many were with my Canon point and shoot. Maybe I should have stopped there : ). Don't forget, the Sandy Hook photos were not taken by me. But yes, I think I just found a page in the manual that tells you how to set the aperture (wth a "subcommander" gizmo no less), so I may even get to the assignment. Now I have new lenses and the world is brighter with much better vision than I've had for a while although the changes happen so slowly I was hardly aware of them. So time to celebrate with a new camera, I guess. Even the color spectrum of the world has changed . I was aware of this because I got my first lens replacement in July and didn't get the second til December. In the interim things appeared with a different hue depending on which eye I closed. Some people, I found out, have this discrepancy naturally. My ophthalmologist does oddly enough and he could not explain why that happens! Onward, now that I've babbled on.
Okay, it's January 28th and I just now found the manual that came with my camera. My job for tonight is to figure our where that "aperture" button is. I only have three more days. Will it work if I say "the dog ate my homework"? I'm thinking NOT.
NOT!! What camera do you have? You will have a dial on it somewhere with a bunch of letters and probably symbols too. Set it on A for aperture priority.
Nancy, awesome! Great job. Not to mention how jealous I am that you are living somewhere so GREEN right now. Everything in Chicago is under a blanket of dirty gray snow!
Thank goodness you have reappeared and can address, I hope, aperture and speed, foreground blur, etc. questions which are cropping up. Yes, imagine roses in January. I'd even welcome weeds.
