We've had Bella on the same dog food since she was a puppy, Nutro Puppy Max. She really doesn't care for her kibble at all, in fact she will not eat it at all (we went on a three day period of trying to see if she was just being stubborn but she really won't) unless it's mixed with Pedigree wet food. Now this works but its only temporary and I don't really think this is nutritious, I've looked and it really isn't that good.

I went online one day and found all of these scary stories of people's pets randomly getting sick after eating Nutro brands. That certainly got me concerned. After looking at every grocery store in our area and the single pet store I've come to the conclusion that none of the stores in my area offer the type of dog food I'm looking for. I've found a brand I like but I already know that it isn;t in my area adn was wondering what you guys thought of the brand. Some people complain of diarrhea in their dogs after switching to this food but I'm not so sure if that's because of the food or if they just up'd and switched their dogs. The dog food is Origen. Thanks for any input.

You guys are so darned helpful XD. Thank you very much. I'll see if my mom is willing to drive down there tomorrow. I get the feeling that Bella isn't going to adjust to this very quickly, she just had a carrot the other day and that gave her diarrhea. It makes me embarrassed to think that we've been feeding her such crap for so long.
Do not be embarrassed; most of us did the same thing before we learned better. Now you've learned, too. Be proud of yourself for caring enough to get more info.
After trying several of the "recommended" high qualify foods, we settled on EVO and waited out the gas and frequent-poop-transition which actually took a few months. Their poop is very firm and if it sits in the sun for a day becomes dry and chalky - just breaks up and could disappear into the soil if we didn't pick it up (which we do). I would bet that if we had given any of the top quality foods a several month trial, they would have been fine with our guys also - except the Dick Van Patton one which we did give a several month trial. The only downside for us is that EVO is higher calorie and a smaller serving is needed. Our Springer begs for more every day now that he is recovered from is surgery.
It took me three years to find foods my dogs would enjoy eating. I'm fortunate to have an independent natural pet food store near by so I was able to get several sample bags of each food from the store so I was sure they would eat it before I purchased a large bag. Another benefit I found was that the independent pet food store prices were better the the big box stores.
At first I had the same experiences of diarrhea and the like. Now I rotate my dogs food at least every two months to something completely different with no problems. I rotate between about 4 premium brands and differing protein sources. They also get a small amount of raw dog food daily and table scrapes regularly to keep life interesting.
