Dan and I were playing with Timbow this morning when we found a perfectly round red bump on the right side of his snout (about 1 1/2 in from his nose). At first I thought it might have been a tick, but we have never seen a tick on him and after doing some research online, I don't think that's what it is. Any ideas?
Judi .... Do a google search on "histiocytoma" and see what you think. Lucy had one of these right in the corner of her eye! We took her to the vet and that is how we know what it was. Actually, I originally called the vet and she said just keep eye on it and if it gets any bigger to call her. Then, the next time we went to the vet I had her look at it and she told me that is what it was. She told us, not to worry, it is a "histiocytoma" and it will go away in a few weeks! Sure enough, it did! I'm obviously not a vet or have much experience, but just thought I'd toss this out there so you could research it and see if it looks like what Timbow has!
Thank you so much! I just looked at it online and it does look very similar. We take Timbow to the vet for his annual checkup in 2 weeks, I would rather have her look at it then, unless it grows.
Abby had a round red bump on her face. It was at the edge by her nose.. She bumped it and it started bleeding, I took her to the vet. He said it was a histiocytoma, he gave us an antibiotic cream to put on it. They would not have treated it if wasn't bleeding.
I think having the vet look at it in 2 weeks is reasonable, as long as it doesn't start to bleed, and Timbow isn't scratching or rubbing it. If that does happen, it needs to be seen sooner.
Good article from Mar Vista vet on histiocytomas:
