Vomiting On 3-Week Cycles

Hoping someone has an answer -  Our 10 month old labradoodle (Mookie) goes through bouts of vomiting every three weeks like clockwork.  This usually lasts four or five days.  He loses his appetite about the second day.  Then at the end of the cycle he gains back his appetite and returns to his normal happy self.  We've tested for Addisons (negative), done multiple x-rays (nothing showing), blood urine and stool tests, gone to ZD ultra - and now we're out of ideas and options.  We've done the rice and chicken diet, tried medicating with reglan and sucralfate, all to no avail.  He's just started vomiting again and is really uncomfortable.  He has an appointment with the vet in the morning but even the vet and the surgeon we've seen are stumped.  Any ideas? Wow, Jane, that's great!! I guess Guinness just like his Mom's homecooking! We tried straight homecooking too before we had the Endoscopy done but that didn't really help us...maybe the problem was my cooking! Im not very handy in the kitchen!
I totally understand you're not wanting to do the raw thing. I didn't want to either & I insisted we would only try it as a last resort. I still worry about how safe it is, but unfortunately it's been our best option.
What a relief that you didn't have to put Guinness on the Prednisone. Once the vets saw the ulcers inside Simon they said it's his best bet to help keep the ulcers at bay. We got him down to a minimum dose with the help of supplements & B12 shots monthly but as soon as we try & take him off the pred. he's sick again.

I think if the raw dies is working for you, then you're on the right track. We all have to do whatever it takes to keep our Doodles healthy. If home cooking hadn't worked for Guinness, we would have done whatever it takes. I'm sure the problem wasn't your cooking...our Doodles are not critics. Guinness eats (and loves) whatever I make as long as I'm not giving him kibble. You are certainly doing all the right things! This is a very lucky Dood.

Hi,

Thanks for the replies about red eyes. Dave and I were laughing the other day because we've become so good at taking all of this in stride. Especially since our whole life seems to center around Mookie and that seems to be pretty okay with both of us!

This is week two of the BARF diet and he got sick yesterday morning. Per our vet, we immediately gave him Pepcid and do so every 12 hours. We'll do that for a few days and hope we've avoided a full blown episode. It's a week earlier than normal so we're hoping it was a fluke. Otherwise, he's happy, playful, and adorable. We're looking forward to Doodle Day weekend after next.

Hi All - this is Dave.

Mook's been feeling really well. In fact I just weighed The Beast and he's up to 72 pounds. He had the one bit of vomiting per Bethany's post above, and we dosed him with Pepcid per the vet's recommendation. He was fine after that. He loves his raw food and Bethany has become quite the gourmet dog food chef! Sadly we spend more on his meals than our own, but a happy healthy Mook is such a blessing that we don't mind at all.

Dave & I joke all the time about this....we never feel like cooking for us since we're always in the kitchen preparing Simon's meals! But, we agree, life's just easier/happier minus the poop & puke from Simon!
