This morning I was looking at PetFinder and I saw this "Poodle Mix" just rescued from a high kill shelter. She is two years old and sounds wonderful. She's 15 pounds, so just Guinness's size. She was badly neglected and had to be totally shaved. I fell in love with her already. So, I'm thinking Guinness might want a "big sister". He loves other dogs, so I don't think it would be a big transition for him. Before I go any further with this what are the objective things I should be considering? Right now I know I'm thinking with my heart...not my head. Please DK friends, help me to think this through objectively. Here's her picture....is she a doodle? Her name is Isabelle, but I'd call her Izzy.
Wow, that is surprising. I've been assuming that Guinness would love a playmate since he is so happy when he goes to Daycare. He is very attached to me though, so I would have to be very careful to continue to give him the same love and attention. I think I could fit them both on my lap, and I could have one on each side of me when we snuggle in bed. I sure hope that doesn't happen!
Jack is not an overly demonstrative or affectionate dog on a daily basis...except when I am giving another animal attention. Then he wants to be in my lap kissing me. That's pretty common.
OK, we are dying here ....... hoping no news is good news! Izzy is adorable. Maybe you should tell them that Izzy would have a support group of 5000+ people !
Yes, Izzy certainly couldn't be going to a better family and home. All of the love and resources for her to live a very happy life are right here!!! We all are on pins and needles waiting to hear!
That's so funny. There was a place on the application that you could add support to why you would be a good adoptive home. I was thinking about putting something about all the DK knowledge that was available to me to solve ANY issues!
Still waiting. It may be that they will check with our Vet prior to approving our application. If that's the case we probably won't hear until Monday. I feel confident the vet will recommend us. With all of Guinness's intestinal problems, she knows us VERY well. I had time to kill at Petco while Guinness was being groomed, and guess what I did? Yup, you're absolutely right....I bought pink things for Izzy. Hot pink collar, pink leash, her own dish, a few new toys. I didn't order the flowered collar on line yet though....I'll wait to hear for sure before I do that. Guinness always gets really mad at me right after he's groomed....right now he's sleeping with his back to me. He's pouting. Wait till he finds out Mom is getting him a "big sister". He'll either be ecstatic or he'll REALLY pout.
A conscientious rescue will absolutely check the vet reference to see if the owner keeps their current pets UTD on vaccinations & preventatives, the minimum standard of responsible pet ownership, before they will approve an application.
I hope you bought a little something for Guinness that you can tell him is from his "big sister"!! That is what we always do when new babies come into the family. There is always a gift for the big brother(s) or sister(s). Otherwise Guinness will feel left out for sure. You know he is going to want to play with all her new things! haha
