Hello

Apologies if there is already a discussion on the subject.  Ted has now been with us 54 hours, for the last 17hours is stools have been becoming softer (now like melted icecream).    I have not given him his last meal (last poo was just before meal was due).

Any other suggestions for the next few hours?  When should I seek a vet?

Thank you

Both my puppies had parasites when I got brought them home. They were ones that the breeder didn't test for. Has Ted been checked by the vet? I always take my pups to the vet for a complete check up within a week of getting them.

It could just be the excitement as well.
Lu: I have talked to several doodle owners who have also had this problem. Mine is now 2 years old , and if he gets anything fatty; bully sticks, certain treats, beef, he starts having loose stools and outright diarrhea. Make sure he is checked for giardia. (Sp?) Ours had it when he came to us from the breeder. I was also told from a natural food pet store owner to cut back on his food, and that did seem to help. We use canned pumpkin also, and acidopholis powder mixed in with his food. When nothing else works, we use prescription dog food and an antibiotic that is specific for digestive problems, and it clears up in 24 hours. Good luck, and have fun with your doodle.
Thank you very much. He became uninterested in food anyway, so didn't have another feed. He did a slightly firmer one before bed and then seemed normal this morning.

We see the vet for a check on Tues. We'll see !!
It took Peri a few weeks to get her poos firmer. I think it was the adjustment. She didn't have any parasites or anything else serious. Good luck at your vet checkup tomorrow. Ted will be fine!
Thanks Allyson,

It keeps coming and going. I think I'll take a stool sample tomorrow, just to make sure. He seems healthy enough. Just to cure those sleepless nights now (sigh!)
Good luck tomorrow. I think it's a really good idea to have his stool checked.
Vet wasn't worried about the poo, said to give it another day or too and if not better go to scrambled egg or chicken and rice to see if it settles then. ( All his poos until his most recent one tonight have been nicely firm again - maybe it was the anxiety of the trip out that made it softer again).
It went away and came back again. He was given an injection to firm it up today and some probiotic paste which he seems to think is yummy. Unfortunately he can't have his vaccinations til it settles down, so trying to do as much socialisation as we can without taking him out.
Well. We have now gone our first 24hours with almost completely solid poos. Hooray!!! We have fortiflora now and are gradually changing his food over to "sensitive puppy" food. I wonder whether this is also something to do with food volume. I noticed before that I gave him more food because he seemed hungrier he would be runny.

This new food is prob about 2/3 the volume of the other one.
What type of food? My chihuahua has the world's most sensitive stomach. He has done really well with Solid Gold and Fromm brands...both with fish as the protein. Fish seems to be easier on a lot of doodle's stomachs. You could check out the food group also. We have a bunch of discussions going on there.
I am glad you had at least 24 hours!
