Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

Hello everyone! Do you know anyone who wants to "try out" a doodle?

I am looking for a temporary foster home for my goldendoodle Kramer. I will be having spinal surgery on March 17th in Los Angeles and  I feel I cannot risk having him jump up on me or tripping me and putting my recovery at risk. It will definitely be difficult for me to part with him, especially at this emotional time.

He is an exuberant one-year-old puppy, about 55 or 60 lbs and LOVES kids! He is completely housebroken, and we can leave him in the house for several hours without him chewing up the couch or coffee table. Kramer does have the habit of jumping up on people and we can't seem to break it.  He can be a bit destructive if left alone in the backyard too long...but I give him toys and chewie stuff that keeps him busy while we are at work.

My husband just got laid off so he will be home with me, but we feel uncomfortable having a very large puppy underfoot while I am in such a fragile state after the surgery...one fall and my neck could be ruined for life. He is well-loved and I want to keep him, but need a temporary solution.

Kramer loves other dogs, epecially puppies, but cats...he hasn't had any close exposure...just tries to chase them from across the street!

I am open to suggestions and appreciate any help I may receive from this wonderful doodle community!

Your profile says you live in GG, so are you looking for someone in OC? or LA? We have a doodle who looks just like yours :) She is 2 today!! We would be happy to take a boarder for a bit. I also know of a teacher at the school I work at who is considering a doodle, I think she lives in the area, I could ask her. Let me know what you are comfortable with.
Happy Birthday to your doodle! We can't believe Kramer will be a year already..didn't it go by very quickly?? Thanks so much for your response.
I would prefer OC, but LA would be fine, too. I am unsure as too how long this would be for, I do know that I have to be in a cervical collar for 6 weeks. This is all very sudden for me, so I am panicked trying to get everything done before next week!
Kramer would LOVE to have another doodle to play with...but he would be great for someone wanting to try out a dog too! My only concern would be leaving him alone all day at a home is is unfamiliar with and how he would react, but another dog buddy would certainly be fun for him!
Of course I would take him back at any time a "foster" felt it wasn't working out or he if he was a problem in any way. I am expecting to be off work for 3-6 months, but the initial recovery period is what I am worried about. I don't want to shut him up in the backyard for 6 weeks, I just wish I could make him understand what is happening!
Thanks again for your help!
Hi Terri,

I'm very sorry to hear about the tough challenges you are facing. My husband and I live in Anaheim, and would love to help out with Kramer. We have a couple short-term commitments during your initial recovery period, but would like to provide any support we can. We could share him with another family, be a back-up family, or whatever. We have a very mellow 2 year old labradoodle who likes to take long walks, swim in our pool, and go to the beach. I'm home most of the day and all night, so he wouldn't be alone very much. Let me know if you'd like to arrange a meet-up. I could also recommend a professional dog-sitter who could watch him in her home. Her only restriction is that he'd have to walk nicely on a leash, and not pull hard.
I think I remember you from the doodle romp in January? I REALLY appreciate all your support! I would love to arrange a meet-up, maybe this weekend? Kramer is not perfectly behaved on the leash, so the dog sitter option is out...he get too excited when he sees cats, dogs, bikes or skateboards while out walking. I am curious about his behavior around a pool, we don't have one and he hasn't been exposed to one yet. He would probably love it like all the other doodles!
my email is pookie1963@yahoo.com if you want to arrange a meet-up. Do you plan on going to the romp this Saturdat at Arbor Park? I have a conflicting hair appt at 1:30 that day that I am trying to change, but no luck yet. The hair is too important before surgery and long overdue or I would just cancel it! Thanks again!
