Three Studies show Fish Oil Reduces Osteoarthritis Symptoms in Dogs

Three studies show that dogs fed fish oil (high omega-3 fatty acid) improved in mobility and showed less pain.  Believers of the power of fish oil (myself included) are not surprised, but at least now we have clinical proof.

Karen, Thanks for your imput - I'm definitely going to give it a try!
I tried giving it to Aylah and after two days she developed diarrhea (which she had never had before) so I discontinued its use and am working at getting her stools back to normal.
The fish oil or the evening primrose oil?
the fish oil
Taquito couldn't handle the salmon oil (stomach). Peri loooves it and gets a squirt daily.
It has eliminated her itching.
I haven't given these to my dog before (but I take one daily myself). For those of you who give these to your dogs, how do you deliver the dose? Many years ago, a vet gave me fish oil as a supplement to put over their food, but it was in a bottle with a squirt top (like lotion) so it was very convenient to use. If it's in a capsule form, how do you give it to your dog? If I give him the capsule whole, I'm afraid he'd try to chew it and possibly get stinky fishy oil on carpet, upholstery, or bedding. And I'd rather not get it all over my hands either. What's the best way to get it in their diet?
You can buy the squirt bottle at many places, many of us use onlynaturalpet.com. You can also use the gel tabs and poke a hole with a pin and drizzle it over their food. The fish oil is a miracle pill, especially for the coat and eyes. Every foster I get goes right onto it and within a day or two, you can visibly see and feel a difference. As far as the claims of arthritis, my 10 year old Cody used to walk very stiffly and doesn't anymore. Whether that is due to the FO or my HC'ing, who knows.
Jack gets his primrose oil capsule as he would get a pill...whole, and right down his throat. Some dogs will eat them if they're put in their food, but Jack won't. It's better to give the whole capsule rather than to just try to squirt out the oil...a lot of EFAs can be left behind if the dog doesn't eat the whole thing.
I give Timbow a salmon oil capsule after his dinner. He thinks it is dessert and gobbles it down. :)
Good boy, Timbow. Even more reason for me to proceed with my plan to dognap you.
haha. He is a sweet boy, but his mommy wouldn't let him be dognapped. :-)
Lynne and Karen...I give Guinness Salmon oil daily and I also cook most of his food in olive oil. Should I be giving the puppy the EPO plus the salmon oil at this point? He's on Orijen puppy food and I haven't been adding any supplements other than a little chicken and yogurt.
